I in particular enjoy the halo and zelda soundtracks. I enjoy that kind.

On Black ops 2 Zombies, when everyone is fighting over the mystery box i like to activate the teddys and get the cool music. Die Rise's secret music currently my favourite.

Video game soundtracks are like movie soundtracks - they provide a type of music that you can't hear anywhere else.

One interesting quality of some video game music is that it is designed to loop back on itself indefinitely without getting tedious. There's a real art to that. And it means that composers can get away with making the music really complicated, since the player might have fifty chances to hear it, and maybe they'll notice something new every time.

Another aspect is that game music often shifts from one version to another depending on gameplay. Like Zelda boss music changing when the boss is vulnerable for example. Unfortunately this means that you can't listen to the track properly when you're not playing, since it is actually multiple tracks.

The Vampire - The Masquerade: Bloodlines Soundtrack is just wicked. And Swamped in particular.

Without it, I would never have heard of Lacuna Coil and the mesmerizing voice of Cristina Scabbia.

Honourable mention:
Planescape: Torment - Mark Morgan: Main Theme
Hitman Blood Money - Jesper Kyd: Ave Maria
Max Payne 2 - Poets of The Fall: Late Goodbye
Final Fantasy - Nobuo Uematsu: ... .... a lot of music
C&C - Frank Klepacki - Red Alert themes

I have nearly every Silent Hill soundtrack on my computer. I think Silent Hill 2 had the best music overall, but I could be biased since that was my favorite of the series. /grin Have a listen to "Promise (Reprise)" or "Laura Plays the Piano." Now that's music.

Oh, the Dragon Age series also has a lot of great songs (all on Spotify, hehe)! I love both of the main themes.

Oh yeah, I've got some Mega Man music playing on YouTube right now. And I play all sorts of game tunes on my keyboard.

I never really get tired of listening to Final Fantasy music.

I'm really into Final Fantasy soundtrack music at the moment, and while it's not Nobuo's work I love the music from Final Fantasy XIII; all these years of having a YouTube account and I just started making playlists to sort all the favourites out!

It's my favorite kind of music, especially Nintendo OSTs ( in fact, I just got the Majora's Mask OST as my Club Nintendo Platinum reward for 2013 ).

My personal favorites are:

EarthBound
Xenoblade Chronicles
any Zelda game
any Mario game
The Last Story
Pandora's Tower
Final Fantasy VI
Chrono Trigger
Rhythm Tengoku
Tomato Adventure
any Starfy game
Drill Dozer
any Fire Emblem game
any Pokemon game
Kid Icarus Uprising
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Mother 3
Donkey Kong Country
Star Fox
Star Fox 64
Yoshi's Island
Dr Mario
any Golden Sun game
Super Smash Bros Brawl ( Wii U better top it...and ffs NO repeating songs. I don't care if they're different remixes, they're still the same song )

look, i haven't read the comments, just read the topic, and i am going to suggest this. PLAY THE "LEGEND OF HEROES" SERIES!! !! !! !! !! !! ! I am a heavily music & sound oriented person with a high expectation for aesthetics and sound, the game is perfect for playing and revisiting for the music and nostalgia feels. 9000/10 should play (although, this is probably overselling the series... just play it or look up a "Let's Play" of it... just awesome for nostalgia moments)

Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty soundtracks tend to be some of my favorites. Same with Splinter Cell games.

Old arcade game music connects with me in a special way, even if I never played the game. Something about it makes me think of unfair, rigged situations with more-or-less foregone conclusions, and the desperate fanaticism required to win.
