I assume "retro" means anything before gamecube or N64 so I chose it. Growing up with the NES, then gameboy, then SNES, etc. I find modern systems lacking heavily in reliability, largely due to stupid corporate competitions. Nintendo has never had that unreliability, so they get my vote as the best, and the older systems get my vote because they don't break down for stupid reasons like "overheating" or "faulty hardware" (most).

PC. It's no contest in my case.
The utterly enormous selection of games in e wry possible genre, the extreme ease of finding/buying new ones, indie games everywhere yet still no shortage of the big ones, developers that don't have to repeat the same exact formula over and over again to sell to the masses, Steam and Desura, easy online gaming without hassle, mods.... Th list goes on.

Whereas the consoles, I don't like. Particularly those of Nintendo (who I loathe). Of all of the currently available consoles, none of them have much In The way of games I care about. Except fighting games. Heck, the 360 in particular, the thing was such a useless doorstop that I just gave it away. Not even going to touch the Wii U, ps4, or Xbone.

The Xbox 360 for me.

I don't really have a PC beyond my laptop, and I don't have the room to even set up a PC, don't even have a chair or desk in my room. I gave a try at some PC games, but my fingers tend to get cramped, and I am much more comfortable with a controller in my hand.

I have lots of games to play on the 360, with about 100 different ones on my shelf. My 360 also acts as my DVD player, so it gains use for that alone.

Also lately been play quite a bit on my 3DS.

Since I don't have a blu-ray player, I have been thinking of getting a game console which can play blu-ray discs, and I think one of the new consoles would be the best choice. I am leaning on the Xbox One, but at the moment I am watching, waiting for more of a reason. So far neither of them have really failed hard.

I tend to change quite often, but so far I´ve only been running Ubuntu and Linux Mint (except for LMDE a few hours) with different DE´s. They all have their ups and downs, but LM is my favorite. Since yesterday I use LM 16 Cinnamon, which I really like so far. Haven´t tried that many games on it though, so I´m not sure it´s the ideal gaming DE. I´ve thought about trying Manjaro sometime, I´ve heard a lot of good stuff about it. But since I´m so used to apt and so on, I´ll probably stay with Ubuntu-based forks. I might install Steam OS on my desktop once it´s out of beta if there are performance advantages and if the Gnome desktop is easy accessible, since I use my desktop both on a monitor and with my TV for watching streams etc.

You know that you can use a controller for a PC right? There are a lot of games on Steam for instance with controller support. I myself play a lot of games with a XBOX 360 controller, which ironically works out of the box on Linux, while on Windows one needs to download drivers in able to use it. So you might as well buy a small PC instead of a new console and just connect it to your TV.

I'm pretty much strictly a console gamer. I like to do my gaming sitting in my big recliner facing my big TV rather than sitting in my office chair down in my bedroom facing a monitor (or 2). Where I live, I don't have an option to set up a PC in the living room connected to the TV. Also, I pretty much only play big, "epic" style games. The Last of Us, Halo, Assassin's Creed, etc. While some may be available on PC, it's not reason enough to make me want to spend the money to build a gaming PC to play games I can already play on consoles. Also, I don't do any multiplayer gaming and am not a fan of indie type games.

Conversely, I often find that "epic" style games are often a bit overwhelming for me to handle. I don't know how else to explain it, I handle games better when they feel more like "games" and less like interactive films.

Overall, the PC (windows). Not only can I play excellent PC and online games, but through emulation I also have access to Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis/Master System, Sega Saturn, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Nintendo 64, Playstation, Gameboy Advance, Sega Dreamcast, Nintendo Gamecube, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, Playstation 2, PSP, most games playable right on my computer (with my USB controller). So PC easily wins, for sheer versatility.

I clicked retro in the poll, but honestly I play them all! Every platform has it's pros & cons....if I had to pick 1, I'd say either SNES or 3DS.

pc.....just because I can get games for so cheap on steam/gog....and im getting a ps4 controller for Christmas- gonna put Bluetooth adapter in there and should be pretty sweet. (PS4 controller after holding it is definitely in my top 3-4 controllers...though I don't own one yet)
you can mod the crap out of basically any game you want....

then retro.....because I like the durability of cartridges and I love the art style on genesis/master system....

PC. There are muc more tactical games for PC and because of console games always being limited on that controller, you are always limited in your way of controlling, because of the few buttons and the worser aiming, then with keyboard/mouse. (Playing dragon age on console was horror and I did not go on with it. Playing it now on PC is really great.)

As well that typical console genres, are the ones that less likely attract me. So in racing games, sport games, Beat m Ups, action-"RPG"s, Jump and Runs, I am rather uninterested.

My favorites are typical "building/economy"-games as Anno, Settlers, as well as strategy games like Warcraft/Starcraft/ ..., classic RPGs that are about group and ressource management and not about pressing X-X-Y-forward to do this or that swordcombo ^^, as well as adventures, from now and then tactical or sneaky FPS or MMORPGs that are rather rare on consoles, or have far worse controlling with the limited controller capabilities.

And it might sound weird, but I really dislike playing games on gigantic television, because you hardly mention something blinking in the right below corner, if you are focused on something that is one meter away in the left upper corner and so on. I like to see everything detailled at once, in a way, that I can focus on the whole screen all the time and dont need to wander around with my eyes.

Just as I truly love my office chair. Its a real expensive one "chief-chair" that I got for free in my old company, when our company boss bought himself a new one, and wanted to garbage his old one. It really looks like s**t now, but its soooooooooooooooo cozy and big. (Cats and I are still arguing, about whose chair it is. ^^)

Because I use whatever the Elder Scrolls games play on. I tried playing Morrowind on computer but my computer can't handle it. I'd like to be able to play it on a computer because of the modifications that I've heard about, but I'm used to playing it on a console now and besides, my computer just died.

That's primarily why I stick to console as well, it's just such a pain to constantly work on computer issues. Plus, it takes thousands of dollars to build a decent gaming computer (when each individual part costs $200-$500 it adds up fast). The cheapest gaming computer I've seen, ran minecraft at it's minimal capability and it was like $2,000. Not worth the effort honestly lol.

How many years ago was this? I built a gaming machine for $500 back in 09, and it can handle PS2 and Gamecube emulation, both of which are much more intensive than playing Minecraft. :P
