E3 nearly a week away!
while it is true stuff is repetitive, its because it sells, why do they make cod the same each time, because people keep buying it, if they change it people might not like the change and stop buying cod.
I like the battlefield games, while the concept is the same from battlefield 3-4 they do changes with the guns, maps, the engine, etc. from battlefield bad company to battlefield 3 there were big changes. I love the weapon customization and finally a game where you can use the selector switch on a gun. wouldn't be surprise to see cod add that. they tend to copy the best components . that said while both cod and Battlefield are FPS they aren't clones. Cod is a close up fast pace game, battlefield is big maps realistic battles. I got tired of the same COD repeated yearly and am sad that EA is going have a battlefield game out every year instead of every 2-3.
Everyone said watch dogs is just a gta clone it's going suck. I wasn't going get it cause of that I was like i'd rather have GTA5, however since that won't come to ps4 for a year like all other freaken games, I wanted something so I went and bought it. you know what I really like it so far. It comes to it's own. I also liked saints row though, but won't be able to play them going forward. I guess though i'm a simple gamer with simple tastes.
I am both looking forward to and worried about metal gear, I love their games, and I love open world games, but I worry about a open world MGS its just not what their games are. how fun would a closed world fallout game be.
I am a console gamer though, been so since I started gaming, never could afford a gaming pc, so was limited to age of empires 2. Maybe if i'd grown up with pc I'd feel different. but i just love the controller and ease of consoles.
also darn i suppose i'll have to buy a xbox one down the road. ![]()
With Metal Gear previous games have done it better and perfected the stealth genre in my eyes another dragging genre this past gen. But if I didn't follow systems I'm personally miss the Gears of War that started a system in this case Cover system or SM64 platformers or OOT lock on targeting. It seems EVERY Gen has a me too copy game and I'm curious WHAT that game will be this gen. Halo everything FPS COD4 everything FPS BETTER multiplayer etc. So agree in some areas. But I'd hate to miss the ones that START something! That if it wasn't for X game than we might not have a certain gameplay system.
Neat views.
See, I can understand the idea of genres and whatnot... and to me, that's not a problem. But alot of games.... almost always on consoles.... go WAY further than that. There's a big difference between being in the same genre as something, and being an outright clone of it. Look at the earlier days of gaming. Compare Mario VS Sonic. These are both platformers. They both use many of the same ideas, jumping around, collecting stuff.... but the similarities end there. They both then go off in COMPLETELY different directions, and end up playing not at all alike. The same with many others, which would have jumping around, collecting shiny whatsits.... but then they go off on a tangent. Each game like this manages to use a couple of the same exact mechanics (jumping, "coins", whatever) yet they end up playing not even remotely like each other. Vectorman, for instance. This one goes off on an even loopier tangent. You've still got the jumping, you've still got the "coins" (which look like shiny star things in this one), but then it goes VERY far away from what Mario and Sonic were, with a large focus on ranged shooting as well as swinging/sliding, and other elements not really used by Mario or Sonic. Back then, this was extremely common, to use the same base mechanics yet play nothing like the others.
These days though? Not so. Many games really ARE direct clones; taking some of the same base mechanics found in the genre.... but going in the exact SAME direction with them instead of doing it's own thing. GTA vs Saints Row, for instance? Same things. Saints Row manages to be more absurd, but that's a cosmetic effect at best. The actual gameplay is nearly identical. If you've played one, you've played the other. The vast majority of FPS and JRPGs do this as well (and are to me by far the most repetetive genres of them all). Sure, you get SOME creative ones every now and then (more in the JRPGs than FPS), but those are few and far between. Everyone wants to be Halo, everyone wants to be Final Fantasy, so they dont use their own ideas at all in many cases.
Now, granted, some of this is due to absolutely monstrous development costs for some games.... but I've never accepted that as an excuse. To be fair, part of this is because I always ignore cutscenes/story in pretty much any game, so I dont get anything out of those and they have no appeal, so spending larger budgets on those always seems silly to me, but of course many dont agree with that.
This all though is why I've stuck to PC: Because it's extremely easy to find things that dont at all follow the norm. Unique things are released with the same extreme frequency that "same-y" games do on consoles. Sure as heck aint to say that there ARENT anything like that on PC, but the simple lack of NEEDING a big publisher (like is necessary with the consoles for obvious reasons) means the developers can do whatever in the hell they want.... so they do. And I guess that's a huge part of the issue with consoles for me, is the major stranglehold that the publishers themselves have on everything. Nothing will change so long as those guys are in control.
.....also it's good to see someone that can discuss this type of thing WITHOUT yelling at me, lol. Bloody amazing how often this topic ends in shouting, really. Particularly when it's really just an interesting debate subject, nothing more.
Yep! Hope Nintendos Twitch channel can handle the load as well as there e3 website for the direct last year there E3 direct froze and started back up ANNOYING! Hope they LEARNED from last year!
I was hyped for almost two months, but lately I've been feeling so alienated and cynical, I'm not sure whether I'll be able to enjoy E3. I'm trying to improve my mood before that, but at the same time I have a bunch of work I'm trying to get done before E3, so I haven't really had the time to deal with my feelings. I shouldn't even be posting here right now.
Sorry, kinda off-topic, but I just had to get it off my chest.
