Steam Summer Sale 2014! Is everyone ready?
Then found out it has the control scheme from Hell. I mean, just.... what. What kind of crazed maniac came up with that? I've seen some bad ones, but.... few are as bad as that. And targeting that doesnt appear to actually work.
Got frustrated quickly, went back to Goat Simulator, which is always good for when I'm getting aggravated. It's hard for me to stay angry when doing that one. I'll somehow fix the Witcher later, possibly. Not sure.
Other than that.... hmm. Maybe not buying as much as I thought I would. It's occurred to me that there isnt much TO buy.... so far every conceivable thing on there that I could want, I already have. A side-effect of my extremely-frequent purchases during non-sale times.
This game "Divinity" looks good though.... I might try that one later.
Hm, I played witcher 2 and never had any issues with controls. It's a really fun game with a great plot, I'd recommend trying to stick with it if you can. You can probably customize some of the controls also.
Actually, you cant. That was part of the problem. It's a *PC* game.... with NO control scheme to edit. That's a major warning sign for me, generally an omen of major stupid on the way.
I got going with the tutorial and the controls just seriously didnt make a damn lick of sense. At one point, it has me of course moving with the WASD controls as usual, but then it tells me that, IN THE MIDDLE OF A FREAKING FIGHT, I need to then hold down "9" of all keys (in other words, removing either my hand from the WASD keys, or my other hand from the mouse, just to hit this absurdly badly placed key). WHY does it have to be this way? Hell if I know.... the game doesnt even use hotbars! Just..... what.
At that point.... yeah, I was done. Wether it actually is or isnt a console-to-PC port, heck if I know.... but it WORKS like the absolute worst type of port that there is.

Have to agree to the sh***y control thing. I knew the book series before and played the first part, which was great and had as well a great controlling. (Was not released for consoles.) So I was waiting impatiently for the second part, but had to puke as well at that typical console-action-RPG-controlling, they implented because of the Multi-plattform-stuff. Had it not been for the story, and the games and books before, I would have left it after 15 minutes. As well that it totally ruins atmosphere; So in part 1 when I got in battle the character had cool moves he showed. In part two, half of the times you were doing rolls on the floor. -.-
Got as well never into Skyrim because of that action-RPG-console-controlling. I know the story and world must be great, but the inability to tag on an enemy, the lousy camera (either you play in FPS shooter style to aim properly or you play in normal "behind the character-camera" style, but then melee sucks), the inability to search a room using the mouse, while not wobbling with the camera all the time with the mouse movement.... *puke*. Dont wanna say, it was a bad game, the rest of the game is that good, that I really wished there was a better controlling, that would not give me the puke after 15 minutes.

I already know, that I will hate that s**t in Witcher 3 as well, but unlike Skyrim, I am simply to deeply interested in the continuing story, so I will have to bear it.
Divinity looks fine to me as well, but actually its still too expensive. More of a game that I will have on the list for christmas sale or next year.

I'll be surprised if there's anything I feel like buying in the sale, not enough good games come out and I bought pretty much everything worthwhile in the previous sales!
Talking of Witcher 2, I tried to play it because the people whose opinions I trust unanimously say it's a great game. But it's a poorly optimised mess with weird, glitchy graphics (clipping hair and geometry in particular is GROSS) and poor mouse control. I can't get in to it enough to appreciate the gameplay.
...still waiting...
There are a couple games on my wishlist that are on sale, but I'm waiting to see if they get cheaper before next Monday. There's a couple I don't want to pay so much for, and a couple I'd rather have DRM-free, but we'll see.

Steam doesnt normally have any DRM in the way that some people think.
They OFFER it, but it's entirely up to the developers/publishers. USUALLY only online-centric games will end up doing this. Of the 200 or so on my list, I've only a few online-only games, and those are the only ones that do it. I've yet to see another do it.
And the thing about it is.... if a developer/publisher IS really using DRM, well, many of them would try their best to come up with a DRM scheme of their own if they DIDNT have Steam to use.
For by far the vast majority though, as long as you've fully downloaded it, and it's in a normal, playable state, it'll run offline just fine. I use Steam offline frequently on my laptop, as I tend to use that thing when travelling, and hotel wifi is usually so horrible that I just dont even bother with it.
Well I mean there are a lot of games that are older, and available on Humble Bundle and/or GoG, that I would rather get from those websites so it'll be easier to run them on some of my other machines that don't have Steam.
I especially like Humble Bundle, because not only do you get DRM-free, but they give you a Steam key also.

Good luck, most people can't even run it in Windows @_@
Yeah, it's not difficult to run, just really terribly optimised. In particular you NEED a good CPU, and that's the one component people tend to skimp on because it's not necessary for most games. My old Q6600 didn't like the game but now I have an i5 it's smooth. Wine probably escalates those requirements...
Not a huge fan of it though. There's nothing to actually do in all that space besides bore yourself driving between missions.
Maybe I'll buy Banner Saga today. Maybe not. I think I'll see how the deals change in seven hours time.
That's been my favorite part of the games since they changed the gameplay style with GTA3

I always felt that the missions were kind of boring and buggy, a sort of "well, we made this big world, we might as well put a little something in besides killing civilians". The stories are kind of okay, though. I just really like driving around and exploring, listening to the radio stations (especially the fake commercials and the talk stations; I miss the fake parody songs from 1, 2, and 3). Something like the STALKER pre-release which promised you could drive around miles of abandoned roads...that would have been super awesome to me. I've been playing Crackdown lately and that's kind of neat, though being able to drive seems pretty lame when you have superpowers, and the simplistic gameplay gets a little repetitive. It's very intimidating to look up at a skyscraper and try to figure out if you can climb to the top or not.
Back to the topic, I finally bought a couple games last night. I'll list them later, getting ready for work right now.

I got some retro-style fun looking RPG called Epic Battle Fantasy 4 in the Steam Sale.
And also MTG 2014, with all of the knobs on. They were both a total bargain.
I *was* going to get Banner Saga... buuuut, I see that GOG lists the system requirements as being that you need a 3D card to play it.. and I'd be playing PC games on my laptop. Steam doesn't say anything about it needing a 3D card to work properly, so bear it in mind if you're wanting to play Banner Saga on a laptop.
I bought some great stuff already thanks to discounts.
Castle Crashers
BattleBlock Theater
Serious Sam Classics Revolution (with the original First and Second Encounter Free)
Scribblenauts Unlimited
Just Cause 2 (and Multiplayer Mod)
Now, my game library is up to 50.

There is no such thing as perfect. We are beautiful as we are. With all our imperfections, we can do anything.
I don't know about the specific requirements for Banner Saga, but every reasonably modern computer or laptop has something which is technically a 3D capable card. If no more specific requirements are given then I'd expect the demands on the graphics hardware to be quite low, which is what you would expect given the game! So you might be able to still play the game, it's probably worth looking around for more info if you want to~
Still no games I want in the sale. I have a library of 300 games that I probably should be looking at instead of the store page. Eh. Maybe I'd get Resi 4 if it was cheaper but I just played the HD version on console last year so maybe not at £9.
You'd be surprised. A lot of PC games these days are using XNA, which has some fairly modern system requirements, even with 2D games.
Rogue Legacy, for instance...very demanding game.
