......wait, what? A scam? ......what?

How does anyone pull that out of what's been shown so far? Ugh, I havent been awake long enough to understand things here...

Because at least half, if not the majority of Neogaf see the game as unfinished until all the free DLC patches come out!
They've been raging hard over it.

Well to be fair they are the "Nexus of hardcore gaming!"

I played the demo tonight and found it extremely fun.
Definitely going to get it day one (hopefully with the Amiibo three pack)...

Oh, I see. Considering all of the crap that the big publishers have been pulling with DLC lately (like Evolve and that whole fiasco) I can understand where the anger comes from....

....except for the part where the DLC *here* is free. And I cant see Nintendo pulling that sort of nasty business practice to begin with. The whole move is a little odd, but I personally dont see an actual problem with it. I'm sure there's some specific reasoning behind it that they may explain a little later.

Technically everything Nintendo originally promised is there at release.
The extra content was obviously added later as the game grew more popular.
Some of the content is being held in order to make it far for everyone when it releases instead of having players who are highly better than the rest.

It will all be available before the end of August with weapons and stuff distributed every two weeks.

One of the biggest complaints about Splatoon is how colorful and kiddy it looks.

Anyways Neogaf is the highest authority on gaming the day it launched due all the original users being from GAF(hence the name Neogaf).

Ugh, I get tired of the whole "it's so kiddy!" thing, with gaming as a whole. So.... very tired of it... not that it'll go away.

As for Neothing, hmm, I dont really have any thoughts on them; not exactly where I've ever gone for gaming related... anything at all. I have the very distinct feeling that I wouldnt get along with.... any of it, so it's one of those things I'm not going to bother trying to join/use. I dont know what a "GAF" is though.

GAF stand for Games Are Fun, which was the forum part of the site gamesarefun.com
It had strong presence from the industry itself including developers, coders, marketers, etc.. along with gamers.
Due to cost cutting reasons, GAF closed the forums (they aren't cheap to run) and a rich kid set up and owns Neogaf in 2003(i think it was).
He still owns the site as a guy nearing 30 and nearly all the original GAF users migrated him to NeoGAF.
Neogaf has a huge amount of developers and such, who regularly post there.
They also gained analysts, and others who have access to sales data and to retail.
They also have a good amount of users are just gamers.
It literally is the best online representation of gaming...

It isn't easy to gain membership and they are backlogged in approving new members.

So that is how they became the gospel of gaming...

....yeah. It and I could not conceivably coexist, that's for sure. Would get along about as well as matter and anti-matter. Oh, the APPROVAL would be easy to gain once they got around to it. It's what'd happen AFTER that that'd be the problem.

I'll not just avoid it, I'll avoid it as one might avoid a giant swarm of, I dunno, nuclear laser bees. I'm not sure just how nuclear laser bees would work, but I imagine avoiding them would be the answer.

Not to mention that their definition of "hardcore" is probably just a tad different than mine. Which would only be the start of the problems.

I remember when being a "hardcore" gamer just meant being really into video games....now it apparently only applies to racist a-holes who only play "mature" games like GTA and CoD. Colors are "for kids" and palletes of nothing but gray & brown are awesome....SMH, I hate people.

I will never get any of the negative comments about Splatoon. Too kiddy? I think I prefer fun to dull color palettes and swearing/gore for the sake of having it. Lack of voice chat? Excuse me for not caring about not hearing slurs and trash talk while trying to enjoy a game.... The DLC thing? It's Nintendo, they're the 1 company who generally does DLC RIGHT...heck, the only thing I found unfair at all was the bonus gear for those who pre-ordered since it was only for those who do so via the eShop and not for those of us who have it paid for already at Gamestop....

Actually the eShop users get it first, the content will eventually be part of an update for the other users.

Those of you who preordered at Gamestop/EB will get a code on your receipt for the Splatoon DLC costumes for Smash Bros. The codes will be redeemable this summer when the next round of DLC drops.
Everyone else will be able to buy the Splatoon DLC costumes for Smash Bros this summer as well.

Those who have the Splatoon Amiibos, will get exclusive costumes, weapons and the three other squid mini games for beating Amiibo missions.

I'd rather have the Smash Bros costumes and the Amiibo content.

with that said IGN published at editorial blasting Nintendo for ruining Splatoon by not including voice chat.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/05/10/ ... hat-option

Keep in mind Nintendo didn't want to be sued again because something bad happened to a minor playing their system and game.

They just got over the Swapnote pedophile incident

"Ruining" it my ass.

If anything, they just made it better. Well, by my opinion anyway.

One thing I've learned from voice chat in online games, after having played a bazillion of them: in most cases, it's utterly and totally useless. Firstly there's the obvious swarms of jerkbag trolls that do nothing but annoy, there's people that cant take the SLIGHTEST thing that could be conceived as a potential loss, and swear the rest of their team into oblivion (literally; a swearing player is a screwing-up player), and there's people that tell you what you should and shouldnt do.... and you end up getting fragged because you listened to them. And of course people that wont listen to YOU, or wont take advice, as they know all (following this, they usually get destroyed soon after). Voice chatting with random people.... not helpful. It's better to learn on your own, figure out what you should and shouldnt be doing, and simply adapt your own strategy based on what the other players on your team happen to be doing at the time.

Now on the other hand, voice chatting with people you KNOW is another story. On this one, I can KINDA see the problem. Except that this is the age of Skype and... Skype. Okay, I know there are other services, but that's the only name I can directly remember at this point. If you're playing the game online, you clearly have access to the Net... get yourself and your friends on Skype, or whatever, and just use that. Even on the PC, this is often how things are done between actual teams VS temporary teams of people that have never met. It has a couple of extra pitfalls when combined with the fact of playing a console game, but still. It works, and people often do it.

But yeah... you'll get zero complaints from me on this one. I dont want to have to listen to morons screaming at each other. And my typical approach to competitive games is that I'll damn well figure out things on my own and use my own tactics, thank you very much. Usually, with games like this, the very FIRST thing I do is just outright turn off voice stuff. And immediately, I've improved my experience with the game.

The DLC stuff I dont really care about.

I dunno.... when I *really* get into an arguement, a 5 page rant is bound to follow. It gets more incoherant by the end.... maybe not so fun to sit through reading that.

It's not happened on THIS forum yet, fortunately. I have no problems with anyone here.

....also, just glancing at their forum, most of the games they talk about arent things I play anyway. Though, that's what I expected.

Today's a slow day for them.
Visit them on this Thursday Night ~6:30pm ET, when the U.S. NPD sales data for March releases (normally just the top 10 games for the previous month)
It goes crazy when actual numbers are revealed.

As for voice chat in Splatoon, hell I used voice chat once in all my years of gaming when trading a Porygons 2 to make Polygons Z on Pokemon Diamond.

I never did it again..

Though Neogaf is also exploding over the lack of voice chat in Splatoon as well, they broke out the pitch forks and torches...!

... If anything dooms Splatoon, it is the bright colors not the lack of voice chat!

Also people forget how close Nintendo was to public government investigation into Swapnote's pedophilia issues and the threat of legal action from the parents who's children were part of it.
This is why we cannot send Swapnotes over the web anymore...

Yeah... sad state of affairs these days. I'm never even sure who to blame for that one when it happens... there's just too many developers pushing forth the idea that "kiddy" and colorful games just arent "cool" now (ugh).

If that game ends up dying as a result of that crap, I shall not be one bit pleased. That sort of thing has happened SO many times recently for games I take an interest in, but this one having the "too colorful!" reason would be the dumbest occurance of it yet, if it does happen. All because of stupid modern AAA trends. Argh.

Fortunately Nintendo always has their huge core audience, which never seems to have too much of a problem playing games of that sort (usually). Or at least, that's how I'm HOPING it'll be....

Well Nintendo has been doing the following for this game:

*Holding lots of events for the general public can demo it all over the world since last E3
*Adding Splatoon stuff to Smash Bros this summer
*Doing the server test this weekend (it was fun)
*Actual marketing of substantial size
*Allowing the developers to regularly tweet updates on Twitter since E3
*Letting Tree House do a huge Tree House Live streaming event for the game at E3
*Letting Tree House regularly have their Tree House Live streaming events on Youtube
*The Nintendo Direct from the other day
*Showing the game off in their E3 Direct from last year
*Having it playable on the show floor at E3 and Gamescon (EU)
*In store ads are now up in the U.S. for this game
*In store ads about the Splatoon Amiibos are up
*Allowing fans to go crazy with fan art, which has been flooding the net even taking it to the creepy extent
*Splatoon Amiibos selling out already at certain retailers (mostly caused by fans)
*TV ads are now up and running
*Internet ads are going strong already
*A German newspaper ran a positive article on it already
*Edge had the cool Splatoon cover
*Other media outlets are joining in as well.

This could turn out to be a sleeper hit and/or a kill app that causes the Wii U to take off.

Hell Amiibos are believed to be the reason why Mario Party 10 is selling so damn well.

So far Nintendo is doing the game justice.
