Oh, you can always buy old games, yes. Many game-focused stores sell used games, and they're also often available digitally if the console in question supports it (PS2 for instance doesnt do that, but PS3/4 will). Just depends on where you are as to just what store may have them. Where Im at, it's Gamestop that'll have such things.

Other than that, you can always order them. Older games tend to get cheap very fast these days.

None of them.

There was a spinoff or two that took place in London, but the rest of them all take place in fictional cities in the United States (New York, Miami, and...Southern California?).

Thank you! When you say "spinoff" - does that mean "not labeled GTA"?

I think he's referring to Grand Theft Auto: London 1969 and London 1961 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_The ... ndon,_1969

Yeah, "spinoff" might've been the wrong word. I wanted to say "expansion pack" but I was pretty sure that they were standalone...didn't feel like looking it up =)

Either way, not sure what game you were playing; I don't play very many racing games. I know the first Test Drive Unlimited game takes place on one of the Hawaiian islands, but not those other countries...

...maybe it was one of the Project Gotham Racing games? I'm sure someone else around here would know.

Anyway, I lost my best GTA when my computer died without backup years ago. Then I bought a newer one and it won't let me out of Hawaii because I didn't win. Every location is a level I have to win. Obviously I don't want to play to win. I want to drive slowly in the beautiful scenery.

Does anybody know of a GTA (best scenery) that will let me do things my way?

There really arent games like that as far as I know. Not among the AAA group, anyway. To most gamers, sandbox games are either A: like GTA, or B: like Minecraft.

For other games... that are JUST about exploring and such... you'd have to go to indie games.

I mean, I can think of other GTA-ish games that do scenery VERY well, most notably Just Cause 2, BUT, you get attacked pretty frequently in that game. There's lots to look at and the game world is HUGE, but while there's lots to explore, the devs stuffed in tons of action, which means frequent enemy attacks. That type of sandbox game is like that. The sandbox-ness is there, but alot of gamers also want STUFF to do, and they want action. So you get tons of missions or tons of enemies or both. It's just how it works. That's what sells.

You'll want to look elsewhere for the sort of experience you want. Alot of games focused mostly on exploring and scenery, though, do not have vehicles (or roads). You'd have to spend some time looking though; unlike AAA games, where the publishers come to you, shrieking and jumping up and down so you cant POSSIBLY not know their games exist, anything else takes some browsing and searching to find.

I'd give suggestions, but a pure scenery/exploration game would bore me too much, so I have none to give. I just know they're out there.

From my experience, it's actually pretty hard to find "action" in the GTA games, unless you actually follow the missions, or deliberately go out and cause trouble. And that's my main problem with the game; you don't really run into enemies until you encounter them in a story mission, or cause enough mayhem to get the cops after you. There's very little risk or danger otherwise, it's just boring as hell, like real life. GTA would be much more fun if all the pedestrians carried weapons and were actively trying to kill you, or if other people driving around were trying to total your car.

f**k it, they should just make a Carmageddon game where you can get out of your car and shoot guns at people. Then, I'll have my dream "GTA" experience. :P

Most of the games have rival gang members who'll be after you. I know I hated it in GTA3, because they would start attacking you for no reason, and the draw distance was so low that by the time you turned around to go find them, they were gone already >_< Don't even get me started on 2's irritating faction system.

I always wished you could be "the good guy" in those kinds of games, so I liked how in Vice City you could take down obvious criminals and the cops didn't care. I tried doing that in SA, but either they removed it, or I was doing something wrong... =/ So I just tried my hardest to clean the streets without getting caught by the police...not an easy feat, especially once drug dealers start moving in everywhere =(

Think GTA V was exactly a counter to this issue.

I agree nothing actually happens unless you follow the missions or cause mayhem yourself.

However I almost always found mindless mayhem to also be very boring and mostly followed the missions on GTA.

Sometimes I'd cause rampages of course and see how long I'd last.

Anyway, GTA V has the random events, a variety of diverse collectibles, and other kinds of side-quests (and also the hobbies, but who actually enjoyed any of that stuff? I only did friend activities in GTA IV unless I had to, browsing in-game internet was pretty fun though).

There's also I've noticed random events in GTA V that are NOT missions.

As in, like, (my step-dad discovered this one) he was out in the wilderness and on top of a mountain was 2 cops, a car and a civilian. Another time, in the same spot, he found a cop burying something with a shovel.

It's these kind of random things popping up in the game that also kept things interesting. Random people in the middle of nowhere and other kinds of stuff.

Hm, that's one interesting way to play, and I did something like that myself.

In SA, everytime I came across a drug dealer in a neighborhood I controlled, I would always say the 'No' option and then immediately kill them mercilessly. Cleaning my gangs neighborhood of this filth.

Funny how in one of the missions your task is to actually get the drugs out of your neighborhood but it doesn't even affect gameplay after you pass it and the annoying @-høles still show up and make deals with your own gang.

I love the Blista Compact in GTA 4 so much.

If I'm in one, I'm confident that I can escape anyone. They handle so brilliantly.

My all time fave GTA car.

Yuuuup! Me too. I loved that car. I was disappointed in the GTA V version of the Blista but the GTA IV Blista Compact was wheeee, fun, fun.

I felt the same way. When GTA V came out somebody said the driving was done really well and I disagreed. I said it was a bit more fun but GTA IV was much more realistic.

I haven't played IV much yet (only recently upgraded to a CPU that can run it at more than 15 FPS), but I thought SA had great driving compared to the two games before it >_< There were so many times in 3 where I would go "Whoops, this is the car that drives awful." and eject myself.

Although I did kind of like how in 3 and VC, the AI was so bad that you could win every racing minigame by driving carefully and watching all of the other cars crash into things and lose.
