Thanks. With parrying, I found it best to use a small weapon in the left hand, as the parry is almost as immediate as when you hit L2(so it can be used in impulse without being too familiar with the enemy). With a kite shield, you have to really read the enemy's attack in advance to predict just the right moment to hit L2 while compensating for the half-second or so delay of the animation.

As for trying out melee, I probably wouldn't past the first play through. My character feels like a good light-tank/healer of a supporting class for an offensive caster build in co-op, and that it'd be good for PvP(I just realized I pretty much recreated my main Demon's Souls character), but I'm feeling somewhat doubtful I'll be able to make it much past the point of Aldrich in NG+ without either doing a respec, or playing with summons online(most of the few npc summons, I apparently really messed up this time around by messing up all the side quests in playing without a guide). I only just finished the end boss on the first play through... It took 15 minutes(saved the replay and it took near the whole allotted 15) of dodging about and poking it with a +4 irithyl rapier(felt like I was poking it with a balloon shaped like a sword, and that it had died of boredom.). It was far too agile to use any of the other weapons I had against. I'm almost thinking to respec to a dexterity/caster build before moving on to NG+ since I won't get the opportunity to do so again until about half way through the game.

Also, since they removed the ability to power-stance from DSIII, the DPS on strength based heavy weapons is incredibly low against most of the later bosses. They attack so frequently that they only allow a window for a single slow attack(if that) before you have to go back to dodging incessantly. Which that was the only reason to raise STR high enough to power-stance in DSII(double the damage and stamina cost in the time it took to take one swing), so I felt that they practically destroyed the benefit of investing levels into a heavy STR melee build in DSIII. That doesn't even touch on the piece that's new to DSIII, where element infused weapons require faith, intelligence, or both to scale the elemental damage making the applied damage often less(the damage boost to bosses that are weak to said element is often incredibly negligible), than simply forgoing them altogether if you don't have high stats in faith or intelligence.

What emulators did you try? Odds are it probably works on Mednafen.

I assume it's because his disc is too scratched up.

Metal Gear Solid 5. I did a full data reset and am doing another run, mostly because I'm bored with Resident Evil 4.

Despite the lame story, the game really is beautiful. Beautiful graphics and amazing game play.

Replaying FFVI for the 3rd time. Every time I pick it up, I go really hard in the paint with gathering all the rages/magicite/tools, but something goes horribly wrong.

First time around, I moved out of state and lost the Wii I was emulating it on.
Second time, my boyfriend accidentally wiped my progress halfway through the final dungeon.

I think I can go and tackle the final area now, I just don't want the game to be over. I'm really enjoying myself (And I've poured like 15 hours into needless spell grinding alone...)

i used the somewhat dodgy psxfin, with which it wasn't compatible, and before that i used espxe. with the latter i had the issue on my desktop where the game would load, but skip and lag terribly. after i had enough and "quit", it just kept going and i had to restart my computer. there was apparently a hidden side to task manager i didn't find, maybe that would have worked.... :chin:

later on though i downloaded the latter emulator on my laptop, configured it and it actually runs the game fine now. i just have to get used to the controls, my ps1 controller has several sticky buttons and with the frame precise platforming required for the final bit, that's really not good. and it has unresponsive moments, so i'm hoping keyboard gives me better results.

plus i have very few feelings of shame for i have actually bought the game:

there was a part in the early section of the game where a couple of levels wouldn't load, i chalked it up to the horrid condition of the disk (the booklet was waterdamaged and stuck together too) and had it resurfaced for cheap. it was tested in a PS2 in the shop and those levels loaded fine there.

but when i tried it out on my slim ps1 it wouldn't load again, so i'm assuming it's a problem with the laser? not sure. honestly if i had known it was BC on ps2 i would have just gotten one of those. at the moment i am not interested in any of the non BC ps1 exclusives....i really should not just have bought that on a whim. :skull:

the cutscenes and music ran much more smoothly though, so i did get something out of that whole ordeal, after all.

It really depends on your configuration...some video plugins work better for certain games than others.

You have to hit ESC a time or two before exiting the emulator. It's kind of annoying...also you have to exit before you can change options and/or load another game.

LEFT CTRL + LEFT SHIFT + ESC

I'd take it but I never actually USE legendary/mythical/whatever Pokemon for anything; they make things too easy in normal play and I cant stand the idea of using them in competitive play.

You could always make a topic to just let people know you're offering one.

I'll be beginning "FarCry 4" today on my PS4.

The best PS1 emulation method I've found, is to use Mednafen with the Mednaffe frontend GUI, and have your games ripped to bin/cue files. The last part is particularly important, since a lot of PS1 games have redbook CD audio.

I've heard that the newest version of ePSXe has an edge over Mednafen in regards to accuracy, but I haven't tried it out. I've really been meaning to.

This board is essentially dead.

Do you want the code or not?

If you absolutely cant find anyone else that'll take it and have more of a use for it, then in that case I'll take it.

Tried Citizens of Earth for a bit. I can see the EarthBound influences now, though it also has a lot of its own thing going on. The art is really good, but the music gets old fast. WiiU version has some framerate issues though, and lots of quick loading screens that I feel could've just been blackness.

Also tried Runbow, and I'm not sure about that one...it's kind of okay, but I feel like a game with "run" in the title should move a LOT faster...and I don't see the point in having a double jump when the single jump is completely useless.
Interesting, though, that they chose to make the "falling off a ledge lets you jump in mid-air" bug into a legit game mechanic. I always kind of liked doing that in the Turok games.

...also played more pinball B)
