I LOVE the Yakuza games! I mean you are playing as criminals in these games but they aren't bad people at all they are actially good guys with strong morals. They only fight other criminals and they are always helping the weak.
I wish more American action games were like this.
It's funny because Kiryu embodies this idealistic view of the yakuza, but almost every other yakuza is cynical if not outright evil. Apparently the director specifically didn't let Kiryu attack outside of fights because he didn't want to encourage people to commit bad behaviour, which is really cute and kinda ends up making the town feel more 'real' compared to something like GTA.
Talking of bad behaviour I've started replaying the first (rebooted) Hitman via Hitman 2. My favourite part of these games is not knowing what I'm doing and just kind of winging it.
Also replaying Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. I did Rondo of Blood (best CV game imo) and Aria of Sorrow recently too. OoE is definitely my favourite Metroidvania, the only thing I really dislike is that some of the quests you get are grindy nonsense. I do wish that it had a difficulty mode between normal and hard because, like all of the SotN-likes, normal is a little bit too easy (OoE does balance it best though and the bosses can get quite challenging).
I play a few games of Dragonball FighterZ here and there too but I'm pretty bad at fighting games. My team is Vegito, Cell and Goku Black. Probably not the best team composition but I like those characters best so w/e
Do you mean Hitman 3: Contracts? That was the one that had a lot of missions from Hitman: Agent 47, as well as some new missions.
Hitman 2 was Silent Assassin.
I need to play #2. I beat 3, and I liked it a lot, but the very first game was just too frustrating (no save states!), and I didn't like how half of the missions just wanted you to go on a murder rampage.

I'm really getting into Sleeping Dogs lately. It reminds me of the Yakuza games but with a Hong Kong setting that focuses on the Triads and it plays more like an actual Grand Theft Auto game than Yakuza does.
I like the fact that you get award points taken away for killing innocent people or damaging property because it doesn't make sense to me for a cop to be able to get away with things like murdering innocent people just because he's working undercover. I try to avoid killing as many innocents as possible in this game.

Haha you see, this is why they shouldn't reboot games with the same title as the originals. I meant the recent Hitman 2, which is why I added the 'rebooted' in parenthesis there but I concede that it's still pretty unclear.
Since we're talking about this I totally recommend at least Hitman (the new one) and I've heard Hitman 2 (also the new one) is as good. Just keep in mind that you have to turn off all the stupid UI elements and hint systems that they added to ease in new players. The old style of gameplay is very much intact and the levels are massive. It did take them one misstep to get there though (Absolution, which was a linear cover-shooter/stealth game and extremely bad)
Oh and if you haven't, Blood Money is excellent and generally considered to be the best of the classic Hitman games.
Oh, I see, I had no idea there was a new one already.
Maybe. If the new "Hitman" is the one where it was all episodic content, I almost bought it when it was on sale, but the reviews didn't sound very favorable at the time. Also, didn't they cancel the game before all of the episodes were released? Or something like that?
Yeah, every time there was a new announcement about Absolution, it just sounded worse and worse...so I didn't really bother
I have Blood Money already, I think, I just haven't played it yet (except for the awful demo, which I've been told is the worst part of the entire game, so I shouldn't let it deter me).
I really need to play 2, I've heard it's the best one. 3 was good, but it was obviously rushed, there were a lot of incomplete bits in the game.

It was episodic, yeah, although the new game isn't. They didn't cancel it -- in fact it might be one of the most successful episodic releases I've seen just in terms of actually delivering the content on time. What did happen is that Square-Enix decided to drop the game after it was complete, leading to a period of self-publishing followed by a deal with Warner Bros for the new game. Didn't affect the first game at all, anyway.
I don't think the reviews for the first one were ever bad? Maybe when it released on Steam or w/e. I remember having some issues getting it to run alright on my hardware but they did a good job patching it. Now I have a Vega 56 so I can run it at a solid framerate at 4K.
Absolution was awful but there was comedy there. There was an incredible scene that defies belief where Agent 47 infiltrates a wrestling match that is being televised by the evil corporation that he is trying to defeat. That sounds dumb enough, but one of the solutions is to enter the match as a contestant, in costume, and fight the other wrestler who is working for the evil corporation. During the fight, Agent 47 takes off his mask to reveal his face, ON TELEVISION, that is being broadcast via said evil corporation, and starts interrogating the wrestler. Afterwards you can leave the scene and it's entirely possible you will get a Silent Assassin rating.
Yeah the Blood Money demo is iirc the first level, which is a linear tutorial with cutscenes. It's bad. The reboot actually did the same kind of thing, but much more successfully.

Agree 100%. Kiryu is definetly an old school gangster and by that I mean he doesn't believe in hurting innocent civilians or taking a life unless he absolutely has to.
The way that the Yakuza is portrayed in this game kind of reminds me of the Italian mafia. They're supposed to have a sense of honor too and one thing that they were known for was the fact that they didn't get their own families involved in a life of crime they always kept them in the dark to try and protect them. Also whenever they killed a man they would send money to his wife and children because they believed in the importance of taking care of family.
And yeah realistically you can't just go up to somebody and kill them on the street without getting into serious trouble. I love how the Yakuza games made a point about that and didn't allow your character to kill people.
Oh, okay, maybe that's what I'm thinking of.
Yeah, I was reading Steam reviews. Maybe I'll take another look the next time it goes on sale, but I still need to beat 2 and 4.
Well, there's a lot of things in the games that don't make sense =) I think it's silly that all of the enemies have hive-mind, but then again, Agent 47 has a magic radar that knows exactly where everyone is and which direction they are facing.
"Go in this room, murder these people, now go to the next room and murder these people."

Yeah, I was very unimpressed with the demo, but IIRC they had an additional option or two for non-lethal takedowns, which I really appreciate. I know the point of the game is to get the job done without taking everyone down, I'm just a little too used to the Thief games (without using "ghosting" rules) where I get a little OCD about blackjacking everyone and piling up all their bodies in the same room...

Still hooked on USUM! I really think these are my new favorite Pokemon games
Am attempting third play through with other monsters now
I'm really looking forward to Let's Go, which looks like a lot of fun, and gen 8 next year, but I have to get myself a Switch before that.
