I do not love playing the Zuul.

I've played most of the races single-player, had a surprising amount of fun with the Hive.

The mega events are really fun, despite their inconvenience. I seriously wish I had more to say at this point, but others have already brought up the positives. It can get a bit tedious at points, like any 4x game.

I picked this up when they released it with the 1.8(?) patch that added a new event related to SotS 2.

My internet dies once every nanosecond, so I'm afraid I won't be able to play. Perhaps Laz would be willing though? Laz sound's like a veteran at Sword of the Stars, so if Laz would be willing to play it would probably be a better game than either a co-op with or a competition against another newbie. Also, I think my wife's lunch break would be then. You may not realize all the recent drama that has been going on, but by putting the password to the game there you may have automatically opened the door to trolls. If anyone is there claiming to be me, they're not.

I love playing the Zuul, bulldozing empires is pretty fun. Of course of the bulldozer crashes, theres 3 more coming every other turn. With Zuul the empire is not the collection of planets, its the fleet.

I play the Hivers if i feel like playing an extended game and getting all the shiney tech late game.

I'm making my own mod.

The vanilla game has serious AI flaws.

Literally, the AI will only do two things in tactical combat: kamikaze against your ships at point blank range even if their ships only have long range weaponry...or beeline to deep space the moment the battle starts if it calculates it may not win.

AI does not use the various tactical commands like present broadside or pursue or standoff... UNLESS its ships lose their engines. Somehow when they get slowed down to a crawl and it sees it will take too long to reach a target the AI starts fighting rather smart with those options.

I noticed this on one battle where both of our fleets literally shot each others engines out in one high speed pass... as both fleet's inertia drifted them almost 2 planets wide apart. Thats when the AI started fighting amazingly well with formations and tactical orders.

Having noticed this I begun looking at what else the AI does on its kamikaze runs... and what i found was that the majority of their ships, regardless of race, were using the same hull section options to load weapons: The ones that gave them the highest DPS. Aka blazer and strafer sections.

So.. Issue #1 to fix is speed and issue #2 is the effect of DPS.

Speed can easily be fixed.. the default acceleration rate and turn rate of all ships is controlled by one line of code. It is modified then by certain hull types. So by severely lowering the default line of code all other ship upgrades to speed are equally altered.

Effect of DPS will require going through every weapon type and every hull section type's armor rating. The really cool thing is that many weapons have special effects... those I intend to make noticeable.

Finally I'll be making missiles and torpedoes a bit more realistic.
