I am still playing WoW though at the moment on a hiatus from it because of Real Life issues won't talk about them here but anyway I have been exceptionally lucky that the guild is well run and active and also we go out of of our way to look after each other and drama is kept to a minimum. I've also been lucky in the sense that we raid as a guild and we have a policy of never using the PUG or other tools to up numbers. I can well understand why some people cannot use ventrilo/teamspeak because it's intimidating even more so when people you do not know are listening. I will be next year becoming the next raid leader there are currently two raid leaders in the guild. I am a patient person with wipes because I think at the end of the day mistakes happen I may well understand the tactics and positions on various bosses but I know not all of our guild knows every single move or chains of attacks the bosses may through out. We as a guild have always strove to make sure our members are not treated in the way the OP said about people being nasty to you because your not perfect at the job. I feel that one of the issues that needs to be addressed on WoW is the way in which people that have been in PUG's are monitored with the behaviour they exhibit when in such situations.
At this time Blizzard is not prepared to put the resources into better policing of of such aspects of the game therefore it will not be something that goes away which is really sad because there is a lot of decent nice players on WoW sadly the bad 5% of them seem to ruin the experience for a lot of people. I would personally no quit myself because I am in a position where I have not had to deal with the kind of abuse that has been mentioned that said I do have every sympathy for those of you who have had to deal with that kind of crap it's not nice at all I have a thick skin and have tended to ignore it but I can well understand why people feel pissed off with the way in which some others behave and I would usually leave any thing when some smart arse slates me over gear and all the other stuff that some elitist people get their pants in a knot over. The issues with WoW above do and should be addressed but the how is more of the problem than the when. Blizzard has the money to do it and the resources they just need to get their finger out and start working on it.
