It's been used as a table for putting all manner of things on, because of having a flat top - the gamecube sat on it, the PSOne did for a while, it's always got bumph on it, of some sort... like at the moment it has random stuff like the Wii power unit and controllers sat on top of it...

And the thing has been an absolute trooper, through it all.

Believe it or not, my ps3 sat on top of my ps2 for a bit, when I first got it, and I still had my old tv stand. The ps2 is amazingly strong. That thing was built to last, and I still think it's one of the more aesthetically pleasing consoles in existence, even now with the reveal of the latest consoles. I don't know where my ps4 is going to go, come November, so it may end up sitting on my ps2. I know my ps2 can handle it, because it supported the weight of my 80G b/c ps3 no problem.

I had 2 Xbox 360s crap out the same way: they both stopped reading discs and the trays refused to open ( the first one also literally snapped my original copy of Fallout: New Vegas in half...not sure how the hell that happened ). My GBA's battery compartment randomly loosened up to the point where batteries would not stay in place. My 3DS had to be repaired within 6 months of purchase ( it was a launch system ) as it wouldn't hold a charge and the clock/calender kept resetting on me ( works perfectly now though ).

Modern games fare no better. Play any Bethesda game and see if you can beat it without at least 3 crashes.....I miss the old days when if a game wasn't working you just had to blow into the cartridge...not to mention earning an achievement/trophy and having it refuse to unlock ( damn you LEGO Clone Wars & Scott Pilgrim... )

My dad fixed that problem on my gba. He just glued velcro onto the compartment cover, then another piece just above it.. From that point on, my batteries were held in place with a velcro strap. It wasn't something I would have thought of, but apparently velcro is a cheap and accessible option. Granted, my gba is long gone. I sold it when I got my original ds, since that was back when I listened to my mom and dad about getting rid of my old systems when I acquired new ones. They meant well, but they're the reason I don't own any games or systems prior to the ps2 or ds(aside from my 3 remaining gba games). Unfortunately, I made that decision well after I got rid of my gba. :(
