Minecraft is great for a lot of people but I've never really been able to enjoy it for long. As a game it's very limited, the survival elements are underpinned by very basic combat and the graphical style, although alleviated by texture packs, becomes painfully simple and garish for my eyes after a short while. Building provides some basic fun but there's no mechanical purpose, in gameplay terms, to what you build. The game relies on building for the sake of building and I've not got the interest or determination to do that.

use the mods "Grimoire of Gaia 2", "OreSpawn", "Shaders mod", "Sync", "Twilight Forest", "Zans Minimap", "Harder Extended End", "Biomes O Plenty", "Damage Indicators", "Status Effect HUD", "DrZharks MoCreatures" and "Barrels" on a Hardcore Survival World. You will die on the first night and if you don't, good for you, Try to not starve. The mod collection has so many new mobs that are more annoying and dangerous, than the Creaper, but are not even hostile, such as a Beaver, cute little thing that destroys trees, AND YOUR WOODEN HUT THAT PROTECTS YOU FROM EVERY HOSTILE MOB LIKE OGRES!! !! >..> seriously though, mods add spice to the game. If the game gets boring, get more mods, rinse and repeat.

Have you played it multiplayer?

I found the solo game pretty dull, but it's very entertaining with friends (especially on the 360, since you can all be on the same TV).

I did play multiplayer with friends, it was actually the longest that I spent playing the game! But I managed to burn out pretty quick. I started thinking "what is the point" and that was the end of that. TBH I don't really like my friends though so the social aspect is lost on me.

And to the guy who made the mod suggestions: thanks for that, I might have to try those out and see how it goes!

Aye, the mods really do help. They can be used to add alot of challenge and such that is otherwise just not there. I love the game but it's too blasted easy nearly all of the time normally.

Alot of the mods mentioned are pretty good, though I didnt like Twilight Forest too much (makes ores super duper easy to get once you figure it out).

Look for mods beyond those though. There's so damn many. You may want to look up the "Feed the Beast" mod pack; I agree with what you'd said above in that alot of the time, stuff you build doesnt have enough practical purpose.... that modpack changes that. But you have to be patient and learn some of it's technical stuffs.

However, if you're expecting these mods to give the game some kind of overall goal or something, for the most part they will not do this. Some mods may do something like add a boss to the game that you can beat, but that's typically about as far as that idea will go. Minecraft, even with mods, is about you setting your own goals, and working towards them.

Oh, and one other suggestion I can make: Try multiplayer, but not the "survival mode with friends" sort. Look up some minigame servers.... the things are everywhere. And some of the stuff people have come up with are tons of fun. Multiplayer doesnt just mean playing with friends only! I can understand your point of view on that one though.... my friends are great and all but frankly adding them to the game would probably just make things go derpy real fast. And I'd have to keep EXPLAINING things every 5 minutes. Ugh.

But yeah, look up some mods! Or even try going through the normal game with the goal of reaching and defeating the EnderDragon; it's not particularly tough, but it WILL help to learn all of the vanilla content, which alot of mods sort of assume you already know completely.

Oh, and be aware of what "hardcore" mode is before you select it, lol. It means that if you die once, the entire world deletes itself. So think carefully before you select it, heh. While I personally love a challenge, I never use that mode because it's just too possible for me to do something airheaded and spacey like walk off a cliff or get stuck in a pit fulla poisonous spiders (argh I hate those things so much... they're in vanilla, too...)

Yeah, I love playing on hard difficulty, but hardcore is a bit too much for me.

My friend and I are about to start a server running on a modified DireWolf20 pack, most of the non-DW20-standard mods being ComputerCraft addons, and smart-moving. If anyone wants to play or ask for a mods list, PM me, and when the server starts (next few days, probably) I'll get relevant information to you.

hahaha xD the mod pack i use (as in my personal one that takes the name "Prepare to Die") is difficult on survival mode with normal difficulty just because of how many things are out to kill you. I played it for 3 days on Hardcore mode and died by an enderman... died, to a vanilla mob... anyway, long story short, it's funny and if you get the "Sync" mod, eventually, death will be a little less frightening (seeing as you'll create clones of yourself that you control like usual but if you die, you move on to controlling one of the other clones. Watch "CorridoorDigitals" web series "Sync" to understand it a little better) but the thing is, you will need to survive until you can craft the stuff you need... yeah... not the easiest thing... kinda need enderpearls and yeah... endermen are scary in Hardcore mode...
