Now that is evidence of an immature group. It may have only been something that I recently had an epiphany with, but a real gamer should not care about that stuff much. I look at my 360 collection and I see almost all MA (restricted to 15+) or M (part way between PG and MA), and I think it was kind of boring, it is not mature to only play gritty games, it is mature to actually take fun from where it comes, and that is why I have been really into Nintendo and the Wii U recently.

Games are meant to be fun, and so is running around with a bunch of colourful characters doing various things. 3 of my biggest game lately have been Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros Wii U, and Hyrule Warriors. I think what is important is that a game have a theme and stick with it, and Splatoon really has seemed to have created its own identity.

I think the "games are supposed to be fun" bit is something that alot of gamers completely forget. Particularly in competitive games. So many supposedly "mature" games have somewhat pushed this stupid idea forward... so blasted dumb.

What is funny to me though is that all of the *truly* hardcore games that I'm aware of are almost violently colorful. All the bullet-hell shmups I play, for instance, you really dont get any more hardcore than that game type, and pretty much ALL of them are colorful to the point of being a little absurd. Or games like the popular mobas, Dota and League and Smite and whatnot, also very colorful games with characters and such that really stand out and are very creative (well, mostly creative). Many fighting games too, usually the 2D ones, with all of their complicated hardcore mechanics... also filled to the brim with shiny colors.

Wheras braindead CoD clones: brown and grey.

Just... absolutely baffling, really. "Looks too kiddy", good grief.

@Misery
I guess you missed 1990 when Sega started the whole Nintendo is kiddy campaign.
They are the ones that lambasted games with bright colors as being for little kids and darker colors for real gamers.
That campaign is where this all began, it led to Sony and Microsoft taking it to new heights.

I only remember it very vaguely; long time ago and my memory is terrible.

Though I do remember "Sega does what Nintendon't!! !! !" and some commercial or other that had a scene with a Nintendo console being thrown out some window. Which always struck me as hilarious that they went that far with an ad.

....and I never did become much of a Sega fan, hah. Had a Genesis, didnt use it all that much. Same with the DC years later. I do like the Saturn though.

....and I'll be using that image, I think, at appropriate times on forums. Which tend to be frequent.

I was more curious than excited about this game, I must confess. But after watching (I couldn't play) some people playing the demo this weekend, I'm very surprised about how fun it looks! Definitely buying it now!

Yeah, I think this one almost has to be seen to be believed. There's been SO much time now where the shooter genre (and many competitive team games in general) has just been so drab and where developers forgot that fun was supposed to be the point.

So then THIS comes along, with Nintendo claiming that it'll be different from that, and... yeah, I can see skepticism there. That had been my original thought upon hearing about it months ago.

On another note, I see that advertising has fully begun even around here. There's a few things advertising it even at the local Meijer (which is a "middle of nowhere" sort of location, so the quality of the store is often a little low), and they even had the big "wall of TVs we want you to buy" just running some sort of ad/video of it over and over, which surprised me.

Well I see the "weird" type of fanart has started with this game already. That sure didnt take long.

I dont even remember what I was originally looking for, but suddenly I was in "that" part of the internet, and.... well, in that place, sometimes you see things you wish you could un-see. I mean, just... what. The game isnt even released yet! Ugh. There are some times when I dont like artists much.

Though, what else I DID find was something that, despite not having seen it before, I knew had to exist in some form by now:

Image

If you know who she in the background is, you win a million billion points. WHY exactly they're all swimming down her, uh, "hair", I dont know. Makes about as much sense as anything else she does though. Explosions and wacky hijinks probably follow.

....also there's going to be some SERIOUSLY weird stuff made of her and the Splatoon characters. It's inevitable. I dread it. It probably already exists. Stuff of her often is all sorts of weird to begin with, too...

....I still cant remember what I was ACTUALLY looking for. Ugh.

From my understanding, various types of fanart started to pop up just hours after the reveal. Ones with Squid Girl (Ika Musume) were rather quick, de gesso.

I laughed because, yes, this is inevitable.
And I feel I'm not prepared lol

Can anyone ever truly be prepared for such a thing? I'm guessing not.

Except the artists that make it. Maybe a bit TOO prepared.

There is art of the Splatoon characters in sexual poses and skimpy outfits.
People have been making this kind of art since last E3.

Yeah, I'm quite dismayed to say that I did see that particular pic yesterday.

....and worse ones. Obviously, some artists dont give the characters anything to wear at all. And then they add the weird. Again, cant unsee these things.... ugh.

There are times when I wonder how the world doesnt collapse into some sort of universe distorting singularity under the sheer weight and pressure of the concentrated insanity that is the Net.

On a more positive note, alot of videos of the game being played during the testing periods are on Youtube now. Been watching some of those, they make for entertaining vids (depending on who is doing it of course). Really does look like a blast.

....yet I'm still expecting nobody I know to want to try it. They'll be too busy with their "mature" games. Sigh....

Best Buy is also getting a full demo in their stores this week, exclusive in the U.S. and Canada.
Again they will also be the only store in the U.S. and Canada to have the Wii U bundles.

You should be able to watch the Best Buy Google Hangout interview with the developers from earlier tonight on YouTube.

There is some disturbing hentai of Splatoon, but nothing nearly as disturbing as stumbling onto a pic of Chibi-Robo's Jenny Sanderson doing inappropriate things to Tao 8O

....do I even want to know what that means?

Hentai (and it's variations) is fine and all, but yeah.... sometimes it gets just a bit TOO weird.
