Maybe you're a lot further than I am, but I'd hardly call the game "bullet hell". I've only gotten past the first two bosses, though....seriously doubt I'm ready for the third.

Yeah I sort of mixed the game up with I Want To Be The Boshy.

Edit: And, after a google search, apparently I mixed up I Want To Be The Boshy with some sort of bullet hell platformer game that I randomly saw on Twitch.tv.

I meant I would hardly call Rogue Legacy "bullet hell" ;)

Well, that was just the word that came to mind when I first played the game and said "Huh, that's a lot of fireballs on the screen." My brain just can't fully grasp how to dodge in that game and but the only depth to the gameplay hinges upon mechanics that revolve around that. I don't find the game to be "fun" because everything else about the combat is very basic, so the only way that the game's difficulty increases is by throwing more crap on the screen for you to avoid.

When I hear "bullet hell", this is what I see in my mind:

Image

You don't always have to dodge. Depending on your class, you could block, or yell, or teleport, or just plain run away. But if I have to, I will just take a hit rather than fall onto spikes or what-not, and grab a chicken leg.

...or just die and come back stronger =) I have died way too many times in that game, it doesn't seem like I'm playing it correctly.

Since it's been patched and expanded a bit, trying to get into SOTS II. It's very different from SWord of the Stars (the first one). They made the game slower, but kinda epic in the way they designed it.

Better than spending hours and hours on EVE watching paint dry, that's the kind of game where your skills and production run whether you look at them or not, so why look at them? Besides needing to grind in game money for stuff I can't use yet, or spending an absurd amount of time trying to get the in game money to buy game time off of other players. If my skills were higher I could, but that takes skill training, which occurs in real time while you're off doing other things. Have to specialize and find a good niche and whatnot.

Nice Deathsmiles screenshot! Love those games...though they get a bit easy if you play as Follet for some reason IMO....still have only 2 achievements left in Deathsmiles II X but I just don't have the skills for them.

As for what I'm playing, Gamefly just shipped Witcher 2 so I'll be starting that in a couple days once it arrives.

Wait, wait...I don't buy this. Someone can actually understand the interface of SOTS II? X3

How is that game? I've been considering it, but I generally prefer to rent games first unless I know for sure I'll like them ( IE I'll buy every Zelda game and every main Pokemon game even with a slim chance I won't like one as I generally love every entry ) and unfortunately, the NA version is download only...

Haven't played it, I just did an image search for "bullet hell" and that one had the most bullets in it ;)

I'm pretty bad at regular difficulty shoot-em-ups, so I don't usually play bullet hells. I've played Ikaruga on the Dreamcast, but that one's a bit easier since you're trying to absorb the bullets instead of dodge them...but it's still pretty challenging. Once they start doing those bits (in any game) where there's a huge pattern of bullets and you have to move slowly and carefully, pixel-by-pixel...I just lose it. I don't have that kind of finesse!!

The funny part is, that game is one of the easiest of all bullet-hell shmups out there. The final stage is a pretty big difficulty spike, but.... it still remains easy. Screenshots of those games can be very deceptive.

A little TOO easy in my case.... I beat it quite awhile ago (even did the final boss without dying OR bombing) and havent really touched it since. The more challenging ones hold my attention better.

EDIT: Oh.... wait. That's the SECOND Deathsmiles game. I thought it was the first, didnt look close enough. The second game is even easier.... mostly about scoring, that one, rather than survival challenge.

As for what I'm playing.....

Minecraft and Hearthstone lately, some Fallen Enchantress, Anno 2070, and a game that I'm in the alpha of.

But some retro gaming too, on the 2600: Fantastic Voyage, Jungle Hunt, Congo Bongo, Q*Bert, Beamrider, and various others.

Painkiller is kinda like Serious Sam meets Doom and is very short. Its not worth the sell price in my opinion unless its a deal, its 75% off right now on steam so its worth a look. There is also a demo for painkiller black edition on steam and its more or less the same thing as hell and damnation.
