Same here. I mean, I remember that Red was so much easier to beat in the original Gold and Silver, but it feels like when I go there, Pikachu TKO's everything I have. Kinda makes me wish that I would have levelled up my rock types more, but knowing them, they'd toss out Blastoise immediately. Level 88 is a nightmare, even on Mewtwo!

I got a dilema;

My leafeon is at level 40, soon to reach level 43 where he can learn Giga Drain.

He already got; Quick Attack
Synthesis
Magical Leaf
Rock Smash

I can't ride of Rock Smash and I don't want to ride of any of those I got, but I want Giga Drain; What do I do.

I mostly know about the oldskewl Pokemon & I'm NOT familiar with this but you mite want to consider losing Quick Attack.. My strategy with the old games is to concentrate more on the non-normal less common attacks. You can switch to another Pokemon for when you would need Quick

Bannete is such a cool pokemon. In the pokedex it said that bannete is a junked doll. I hate dolls and think they need to be junked so they are instantly my favorite :)

Going back to the original topic for a bit, my battle style is definitely shifting towards balanced/bulky offense teams. My new favorite set is a bulky Gyarados with Taunt, Dragon Dance, Waterfall, and Stone Edge (though I might try Bounce in that slot soon). If someone's Gyarados counter is something like Skarmory, Vaporeon, or Swampert that can take a hit and Roar me out, Taunt completely destroys that strategy. It is so easy to get 4+ Dragon Dances in and sweep with this, I love it so much. Another set I've been thinking about recently is a Dragon Dance Dragonite with Extremespeed, since a lot of people seem to be going with a Choice Scarf Starmie as a revenge killer (for good reason, it's an excellent Pokémon with great speed and type coverage. It can handle Infernape, Gyarados, and Dragonite all in one set, no problem). I haven't run any calcs yet, but I'm pretty sure an Extremespeed will handle it easily (defensive variants get revealed from Leftovers recovery, and they eat a Dragon Claw instead). Scarf Jirachi still beats it, but that's what teammates (Magnezone in particular) are for. I like sweepers that can take hits while they set up; I also am starting to like and utilize moves like Taunt and Thunder Wave a lot more. Messing with an opponent's game plan is much more fun than merely trying to set up your own.

I'm always hesitant to go for competitive battling/team building on the games themselves, since I don't have the patience to get perfect IVs and such. I suppose I'd tolerate it, but I never got around to it despite planning to multiple times.

I recall there being this one program where you did competitive battling online (on the computer, not on the games) with other people. It was free. I think it was related to that smogon website... I forget what it's called. Anyone know?

It's called Shoddy Battle, and I like it a lot. There's a whole rating system to ensure you get matchups with people around your skill level. My first team got me a CRE of about 1200 after just a couple hours of laddering; after that I got bored and I haven't laddered since. I downloaded another simulator that I battle on now, but I forfeit every time I don't like the lead matchup to ensure my rating stays low (beating hilariously bad teams boosts my ego :P). Once I actually beat a very skilled battler (very) with my current team, although luck was very much on my side with a couple of crucial misses towards the end. Since I'm not seriously laddering, I have no idea how solid the team is. I do know it has problems with bulky waters and Gengar, both things the metagame is shifting towards, so that's an issue.

Competitive Pokémon is great fun; you should definitely consider it.

I've used the program before, but it's been years since. :P Looking up screenshots, Shoddy Battle was right. Thanks! Maybe I'll use it again soon.

If only said Competitive Pokémon worked on the games themselves... with Wi-Fi random battles.

Finally got to the Elite Four on Soul Silver! xP

You know if you compare Jigglypuff to the devil emoticon, they do look kind of simular.

But we should trust more a religeous guy enciting hatred over a children cartoon amongst other things over a cartoon that encourages friendship with all living creatures.

Yeah, it's kind of silly personally... I believe Pope John Paul II one time was tired of that huge debate whether Pokemon and Harry Potter were evil and gave his opinion on how if you look at the context, it actually teaches good morals and yeah...

But yay! Black and White! I'm sooooo excited! I don't know about you, but N is a sexy beast! I really am loving the plot, I like it because it isn't just a lame excuse like "Oh noes, there is Team Rocket stealing Pokemon" no, it's like Pokemon is becoming a full-fledged RPG. Me like....
