A water/ghost could always be based on some of the more recent Japanese horor movie ghosts, one that comes to mind is the one from the Ring.

Anyway if you want to look at the origin of certain pokemon, Bulbapedia often offers some good examples of the origin of each pokemon.

I know I've been looking into mythical creatures before I was into poke'mon so I naturally see legends and myths in everything.

I guess we could say Gengar is based on shadow people?

I'd still love to have a Ice/Fighting based on a Wendigo

i had my small game obsession with platinum that i ended up getting many of the legends you can get in that game including darkrai. I love my Giratina .
