Although I was born in 1994, I took longer to mature than others my age, so Ruby was my childhood. It had by far the coolest caves to explore.

The Pokemon designs have gotten worse and worse after the original 150 (though Gold/Silver were alright). That's what keeps me from being all that excited.

I guess their designs have become gradually more cartoonish.

There was a new Eeveelution called Ninfia that was announced earlier. It looks kinda like Audino from the 5th generation, and also "evolves in a special way" apparently. I seem to be the only one who's come up with the idea that it looks a lot like Audino in the face, so if it indeed needs that Pokemon, maybe you have to breed Eevee and an Audino or maybe just have them both in the party at the same time or something.

Now that you mention it, it is kind of weird/funny that no one has mentioned the new Pokemon games on here, especially given that there's probably a lot of people on the spectrum who are obsessed with it.

Pokemon was probably my strongest special interest as a child. My mom used to tell me, "you eat, sleep and breathe Pokemon!" (which means that my whole life revolved around it). I have played a little bit of every generation that has come out, but the only ones I played to completion were the first and the second. I dunno, after that it just seems to have lost its magic for me somehow. People who are still obsessed with Pokemon act like there's something wrong with me because I outgrew it.

Same here, but I made it through Diamond and Platinum; loved the s**t out of Diamond.
Best gens imo:
GS
D/P
RBY
RSE
IDK about BW but I have my biases.

I confess that I never played a Pokemon game after the Gameboy Color(I had Yellow and Silver) until I picked up Soul Silver on a whim, mostly for nostalgic purposes. It wasn't so much that I didn't enjoy the classic GBC Pokemon games(in fact, I loved them), but I went through a weird phase in my early teens where I decided I was too old for certain things, and Pokemon was one of them, so I didn't play the GBA games, and by extension, I didn't play anything after that either, till one of my online friends convinced me to try Soul Silver. I enjoyed the trip down memory lane, for what it's worth, and I actually enjoyed catching some of the 3rd and 4th gen Pokemon too. There's other new stuff, including a female version, but I stuck with the male version. With that said, I appreciate extra content. There are some two on two battles now too, which is kind of neat. Come to think of it, I have yet to finish that game. Maybe I'll start again, and go all the way this time.

Anyways, I've heard some things about the new Pokemon games, and truth be told, certain changes in Soul Silver confused me, more specifically, some of the elements. A couple elements have had name changes, which weren't that hard to figure out. What was called leaf is now called grass and what was called colorless is now called normal. However, there are some new ones too, like poison, flying, ghost and bug. I actually kind of like having flying as an element, since it includes attacks like gust, which is wind, and should be considered separate from physical attacks anyways, but it confuses me that Pokemon like Ghastly/Haunter/Gangar are poison now.

Anyways, long story short, I decided that I would just enjoy Soul Silver, and that it was way too late for me to get back into the franchise. I'm from a different time, and it seems that the franchise has evolved without me, leaving me in the dust. I was perfectly fine with that. However, I just might have to check out X and Y, because it seems that the franchise is finally making the jump to 3d(in the post-16 bit sense of the word, but I suppose in the modern sense too, given the current hardware), which is something I remember wanting as far back as the 5th gen with console spinoffs like Pokemon Stadium. I don't need fancy visuals, but I've always kind of wondered what a 3d Pokemon game would be like. While Soul Silver does sport improved graphics, aside from the menu footage, and a couple pre-rendered fmvs, one would never know that two gens had passed, and the hardware it was released on is at least on par with an n64. I appreciated the classic style visuals for what they're worth, given that I checked out the game for nostalgic purposes, but I suppose I am a little curious where things will go with the 3ds. I'll either get up to speed with the new game(whichever one I get), and get back into the franchise, or I won't. Either way, I need to try X or Y, and I won't regret doing it.

Grass has always been called Grass since Gen 1
Normal was always called Normal since Gen 1, it was "Colorless" in the Trading Card Game
Poison, Flying, Ghost, and Bug have been types since Gen 1
Ghastly/Haunter/Gengar have been Ghost/Poison type since Gen 1

Seriously? I don't remember that. Then again, I did play the trading card game back then. Well, more specifically, I participated in the collecting and trading of cards for a few years, which was around the time I played the classic GB games. Maybe I was used to the terminology and elements from the cards. I could have sworn bug and flying attacks were the same as normal in the games back then though. Oh well, it doesn't matter I guess. At least I was able to make sense of Soul Silver. I'm not so sure about the new games though.

About Ghastly/Haunter/Gengar been Ghost/Poison type, I thing the dual types didn't appear until Generation 3, so they must have been only Ghost type in generation 1 and 2.

There have been dual types since Gen 1.

The new Eevee evolution's American name is Sylveon, and it's a flying type.

I guess that makes it the first non-legendary pure Flying type? That's interesting.

Ah, that explains a lot. I don't recall paying much attention to "types" back then. I kind of just assumed they were the same as the cards and the show. Then again, I only cared about the show for so long, and it was the first Pokemon related thing I dropped, so I only remember certain aspects of it.

I like Pokemon and I'll probably be interested in the game when it comes out, but I played obsessively a couple years ago when I finally played 4th gen and that kind of burnt me out. Plus the games all have a really obvious formula and I think they have added everything they could to make them more interesting already.

Actually, there are going to be some even MORE interesting things in G6 such as 3-dimensional graphics.

Pokemon Stadium did it.

I imagine the 3D battles will probably just add to the pacing issues. Hopefully there will still be a way to turn battle animations off.
