Um... I never even bought a DS. I like when hand helds play older looking games like back when Gameboy was the only hand held system. Realistically the old bit like games are much easier to see on a small screen... where as I currently have a psp I never use because it's just too annoying to try to make out games on such a tiny screen
I never had problem to see my games on my DS, the resolution is relatively low so the images are to be kept simples... more that on a PSP. (The 3DS also got low resolution, keeping the technology back so games are more playable, so like Nintendo

Also I'm not usually out and about everywhere so I can just turn on my PS3 and play something with a big screen and much better graphics than a hand held could produce
Because JRPGs get out on the DS now, that's why.

Edit: Before someone corrects me and says this little hand held guy has a very powerful graphics card or something... just remember Nintendo has never been one to use the power of their consoles effectively. Back when Game Cube was around and it had decent graphics at the time that could contend with Xbox 1 and PS2... Nintendo was being lazy while pushing out crap like cell shade Zelda games... Wind Waker was way too cutesy and boring and honestly didn't take much effort to create Rolling Eyes
My computer turned out not powerfull enough to handle a GameCube emulator, it was running way too slowy, but still,... despise the low resolution I was mesmerised by the beauty of Wind Waker visual, it's certainly was not lazy work.
Personally
We also gone to the point where pushing for graphics is costly and don't give much anyway.
