Which game controller was your favourite? I'm talking games consoles PAST the NES era (I'm too young for ataris and stuff...).

Maybe it's just because it's the one I've held more in my hands but my vote goes to the 360 one.

I feel that the Game Cube controller had a really good layout. Not too many or too few (like Wii) buttons, and all are comfortably within reach from a standard position.

Not that anyone asked, but my least favorite would have to be the PS2 controller. It just has lots of buttons at weird distances. You rarely even use all of them in games. Two control sticks? It can be nice for camera angles, but more often than not one just goes to waste along with a couple of the four L/R buttons.
Plus, I have to actually reposition my right hand in order to press the green triangle button or the square - they're too far away to reach with my hand around the grasp. I don't know if other people have to do that, or if it's just me, but I've always thought the PS2 controller had serious design flaws.

I've never heard anyone else complain about it, though. Is it just me?

It's not just you. I have a PS2 and I too think that the layout is stupid. The analogue sticks are for thumb control, but you've got the great big traditional up-down-left-right blocking it! My favourite was the N64 because you can hold it in two different ways.

I think maybe the 360 controler, I can use it in a couple different styles fluidly, it can be cordless and I can reeach all of the buttons that are usualy well used except for the "BACK" button. the guide button is also a usefull button that makes doing a few different aplications quite easily, and is easy to press. And finaly you can easily add a headset to it and makes playing with others online fairly easy.

When I was a kid I often played the N64 one, fairly comfertable in being weilded diferently, but all the games that this controler got me to rappidly press two buttons orrevolve the control stick on my palm till my hand is raw, makes me think twice saying it was incredibly comfertable.

HAR HAR >=U I assume you put the original xbox and dreamcast controllers in as a joke. Although the 1st xbox actually has a vote which makes me wonder...

PS Gamecube contollers were clearly the best 8)

I think it's a tossup between Dreamcast and GameCube...they're both really comfortable, though the Dreamcast controller gets a bit heavy with a rumble pack and a VMU plugged into it, and the analogue stick is a bit slippery.

I'm not taking actual functionality into account though, since the GameCube's d-pad is barely good for anything at all...functionality-wise, I think it really depends on what games you're trying to play. I can't think of one specific controller that fulfills every gaming need.

I never knew how painful a palm-blister was (or even that palm blisters existed) until I got the Mario Party games for N64. Ouch. My palm hurts just thinking about it. 8O

My vote goes for Gamecube, with 360 comming in close second. The layout on both is excellent, and they have space for your hands to grip them thats not too small.

For me, PS1 comes in dead last, the buttons are spaced out far too much and could be shrunk a bit.

I concur. It's true.

While the Gamecube controller was comfortable to hold, it's ultimate lack of functionality sort of nixes the comfort factor. I did not like the button layout on that thing for one. Another, the Z button was horrible. It was a literal pain to hit that button, not to mention the fact that it didn't have another similar button on the other side. Seriously, you can't have another button above the left trigger? Really? Also, the fact that the analog sticks weren't clickable really limited some functionality.

Well not really, I just wanted all of the main(ish) consoles to be listed. I personally hated the original xbox controller but I'm okay with the dreamcast surprisingly! Oh well. I suppose I should laugh at the absurd xbox controller... MWA HA HA!

It always reminded me of a hungry metroid. I can only imagine what the hands of people that thought it was comfortable looked like...

Oh yeah! I was debating whether I should pick N64, but yeah palm blisters were no fun. :[ Though for me, it was the Bowser fights in Super Mario 64 that gave me them.

Anyways, I'm probably going to be alone here, but I always found the Dreamcast controller extremely comfortable. The analog sticks were nice and soft. :]
