Did any of you people here play the old-school Sierra computer games when you were younger like the original 'Leisure Suit Larry' and 'Police Quest'?

I used to really dig those games, especially Larry.

My fave was Space Quest!

Ah, you bring me back down memory lane to a time when games were games, my friend. Not these flashy shadows of games we have today. <Yoda voice> Luminous beings were they, not this crude matter!

If only all furniture was as insightful

Yes! All of them! King's Quest 1 EGA was my very first computer game. :)

King's Quest II was my first but I've since played all of them, all the leisure suit larry's except the last one, all the space quests except 3 which had a faulty disc (and the last one which didn't run on my PC at the time).

I've played Quest for Glory I and 2 and most of 4 (which was great until the game fell over). grrrr...

Police Quest 1 and 2.

Phantasmagoria 1 and 2 - now those ... were games.

The non sierra games (Lucasarts Manic Mansion and the Dig etc... were cool too).

BTW: Did you know that you can get the FREE Remakes of Sierra games at...

King's Quest 1 & 2 plus Quest for Glory II
http://www.agdinteractive.com/games/games.html

King's Quest 3 (and eventually Space Quest II).

Are you using EMU software to run it? If so, could I ask which one you like best?

I was very into the King's Quest and Space Quest series along with other Sierra games around 20 years ago. The first one I ever got was "The Black Cauldron". It's a Sierra adventure based on the animated Disney movie.

I've played King's Quest III and some of the Space Quest games. Looking back at it now... though they were indeed quite funny, they tended to be mostly frustrating and always had to be played the exact same way.

Some of the game was optional which which is why those Sierra games had a "score". It was fun to play back through to try and get 230 of 230 for example.

Running it in pure DOS on an old 486 ;)

But if I had to run it on this rig, I'd try VDMSound first, and if that didn't work, I'd just use DOSBox.

Guess I'll have to resort to one of the two once I get to SQ5, don't feel like trying to get the external CD-ROM drive to cooperate >_<

Thanks for the response Sabbra.

I also liked the ol' Ulysses and the Golden Fleece. Took me forever to figure out how to tie myself to the mast to survive the sirens.

I definitely have fond memories of those games, particularly the Quest for Glory series.

For those of you using Linux, you might be interested to know that there is a reverse-engineered version of the virtual machine used to run those games written for Linux, called FreeSCI. Apparently, they're in the process of merging it with scummVM, an implementation of the virtual machine used to run LucasArt's adventure games, like Monkey Island, which has been expanded to run many other games. I don't have any experience using scummVM myself.

I'll admit that I had a thing for Hero's Quest, owned the anthology and played it a lot.

The Quest for Glory games are awesome, though the fifth one is my favorite, and it's not as old school. The King's Quest games are fairly enjoyable.

I like the remakes for the first two KQ games done by these guys: http://www.agdinteractive.com/

Don't bother with QFG2 though. Remake or no remake, the city map is damn near impossible to navigate.

Yeah, you have a better memory for this kind of thing than I do. That's what I had - the box set of 1 through 4. Have to say that I liked 3 especially, 1 and 4 were both excellent (slight favor to 4), 2 looks like it could have been good if they would have refaced it. Never saw 5 though.
