For all you Final Fantasy fans out there, I am doing a poll on who is your favorite final fantasy villain. I'm going to try and cover every major villain as best as I can, minor villains are of little concern.

My personal favorite villain is Kefka Palazzo from Final Fantasy VI, a homicidal clown-like villain who was hilarious as he was psychotic. If any Final Fantasy villain could make anyone laugh, it would be Kefka. Well I will list the major villain or villain-like characters from the Final Fantasies.

I'm surprised that you didn't list Zeromus (Final Fantasy IV) or Gilgamesh (Final Fantasy V, and others).

Zeromus I will certainly give you credit for mentioning. However I think Gilgamesh, although amusing, if far from being a serious antagonist, with exception to Final Fantasy V, where he is Ex-Death's right hand man. But Gilgamesh is inconsistent, he can either be an ally (as an Esper in FFVI and FFVIII), a villian (FFV), some weird thief dude (FFIX), or an extremely powerful and deadly swordsman with a dog named Enkidu, who beats the crap out of you (FFXII).

The Shadow Lord in FFXI can be taken off the list. He is not a final boss, and is completed well before the max level limit is reached. I don't know what the current toughest boss would be, I think when I stopped playing it was something like Absolute Virtue.

Kefka easily is the best one. A combination of humor and insanity is quite a combination for a villain.

I've always really liked Ultimecia for some reason. She's so mysterious, calm, and slightly creepy.

Kefka over and over again. He's FF's equivalent of the Joker. He's brilliant.

Actually, now that you think about it...a lot of FF's villains are kinda lame.

Think about it. There's Garland in the first game, and you spank his ass like he's nothing in the first few levels.

And Sephiroth? Try to explain his history and make sense. "He was cloned from the DNA of an alien god who he thinks is his mother and is trying to drink the life force of the planet...I think..."

Seifer is one of the lamest villains ever, but at least he has an actual personality compared to Squall. Too bad I can't say the same for Ultimecia.

Kuja was okay, but then again FFIX was my favorite of the PS FF's, so maybe I'm biased.

Seymour? I'm sorry, I never have and never will be threatened by a guy named Seymour. Particularly one THAT effeminate.

What did Vayne really do that was evil? Kill his father? What politician HASN'T killed family members to get ahead?

Kuja wins my vote for the sheer ridiculousness of his motivation to destroy the world. "THE WORLD CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT ME!"

actually speaking of Kuja, I just realized something.

...am I the only one who thinks that Kuja is like the supervillain version of Pete Wentz?

Agreed, Kefka is awesome, he is the epitome of psychosis combined with misanthropy and a desire to destroy all life. And yet, one can not help but to be amused by his sadistic antics and his comical dark humor.

What I find so bizarre is that although Kefka is the epitome of evil and whimsical destruction, the last movement of "Dancing Mad" has a sad and melancholy tone, as if Kefka was a tragic hero who fell from grace:

I agree with you on most of your points. Garland is a weak, Sephiroth is TOO complex and overrated. I liked Seifer, although not the main antagonist, he was still an evil bastard at times, like torturing Squall. Ultimecia, I think her character didn't get a chance to fully develop. Kuja is just childish looking and silly, not to mention extremely effeminate.

However, I liked Vayne Solidor. He thought he was doing the right thing by becoming the new Dynast King, and although rather weak in human form, he pulls off some pretty cool looking quickenings.
He also has some sweet Bruce Lee style foot-to-your-face kung fu (or should I say Jeet Kune Do :P) action. Not only that, at the end, he turns into a freaky mechanical 1/2 dragon 1/2 human ass kicking machine. Vayne is cool in my book ;)

I believe the OP only included games that start with Final Fantasy and then their number. "Spin offs" probably don't count, that's why I don't see tactics up there, or their old gameboy game (Crystal warriors?)

The only thing Sephiroth has going for him is that he has a Nightwish-esque metal theme backing him up... that's about it...

I actually have to disagree with you on both counts... Seifer may be lame, but nowhere near as lame as Seymour or Vayne (discussed below)... And he has less personality than Squall... Seifer is all bravado and no substance, whereas Squall at least has some layers of character (i.e. under that cold exterior isn't necessarily an even colder interior)... Then again, I'm biased in favor of Squall since he is the most aspie-like video game character in existence...

If you're an evil villain that needs 2 tons of hair gel every day... you fail.

The funny thing is, most of the villains in FF that have any named family members have killed at least one... You can't even say that gives Vayne any substance at all... Moral ambiguity, while more realistic, makes for horrible dramatic presentation, and that's not just in FF, that's a reality... Ever wonder why any "historically accurate" movie about, say, world war II, was incredibly boring, while any interesting movie thereof often had deviations from reality? Reality is boring, period. Even situations that involve desperate situations such as the Pearl Harbor attacks are overemphasized to provide dramatic presentation...

I voted Emperor. He's baaad and cruel. And he's good with magic. And looks like Jareth from Labyrinth, minus the too-revealing tights, thank God.

LOL. Reading those two, I'd say you're biased to like Final Fantasy IX. But who can blame you? It's my fave, too, even beating Final Fantasy V.
