Bought the game off of Good Old Games, installed the Open Source Project, and added the HD content.

This game is amazing! I love how FS2 immerses the player into the role of just another starfighter pilot on the "need-to-know" treatment. The story is deep, and I can't stop having fun flying around those REALLY big starships.

Anybody else love this game?

Nope :(. The only games I have from that time are Battlezone, Battlezone: The Red Odyssey, and Battlezone II: Combat Commander, (FPS/RTS, also space themed) but it looks good based off of what I just researched  I might give it a try...

You should get started on some of the custom campaigns like Silent Threat Reborn, it's pretty amazing what this community has managed to produce.

I got Freespace 1&2 the other day off GoG, when they had a special offer on. Playing through the first at the moment. I passed them by when they originally came out all those years ago. They're great still today, especially when you think about how long ago since release.

It is a pity Freespace 2 was the last game of its kind to release that is any good, since it was made a while ago.
