I have had 2 games consoles in my life, and recently sold my last (Xbox 360) Though I have had a computer for a few years, it was rubish. and my only gaming machine now is a very old laptop. But soon I am getting a gaming pc... so I am obviously looking forward to that (Crysis on max with over 30fps....WOOOOO!) anyway. What is your preferred console for current games?

For me it TOTALLY depends on the game. For first person shooters, I can't get more accurate than my trackball mouse on my PC. Headshot, baby, WO0t! But for something like a 125 hour RPG, I'd rather not suffer from carpal tunnel and would prefer a controller. There are also console exclusives that you can't get on PC. However, the PC is essential for games with a large number of keyboard commands. Some simulators use almost every key!

So it depends on you and what you enjoy! They're both great! I aim to game forever :)

I have a PC that will take pretty much any game I will throw at it. But I recently got a PSP 3000 series. I got that for the GTA Liberty City stories and more in the GTA series. I also like it's ability to be a media player for music, video, internet connection (depending on sites)

It varies for each game.
FPSes are usually better on PC unless they were designed for console. For example, the Xbox version of Halo is way better than the PC one.
Action adventures are usually better on console unless the PC version has considerably better graphics, etc.. For example, the PC version of Arkham Asylum is the best one.

And then, there are other weird things to consider: the Dreamcast version of Half-Life has better graphics than the PC version (except for resolution), but what about controls? Actually, you can play it with a keyboard and mouse. (Directly supported by the game.)

If you're talking about the high-def model pack, they refined it and released it for PC along with Blue Shift.

The PS2 version (of the model pack) is supposed to be even more polished, but the only ports from it to PC don't seem to work very well.

That is, if you're into that sort of thing. I don't think the HD pack really does the original models justice.

Well, PC's controls are better suited for 1st person perspective games, whereas console controllers are far better suited for 3rd person games. Of course, with the use of a gamepad you could use a controller for a PC game so PC's get the best of both in that respect.

PC, because gameplay is dumbed down to fit the borderline illiterate on consoles. Case in point: ALL recent shooter-games on the consoles. Get hit by a bullet, no matter - You'll be fine. You got shot in the head and you're dying? All games that are made for consoles, will suck on the PC because they're fundamentally flawed gameplay-wise, which again ties in with the targeting the idiot demographic thing the consoles have going on.

First person is always going to be better on the PC. With mouse aiming, you don't have a delay while you fiddle with the aiming on a pad. The mouse feels smoother and more natural. If anyone mentions "auto-aim" I will have to kill them ... it's a compensator. How would you like to play a driving game where the steering is done automatically and you control only the speed. Not the same ;)

im pretty sure xtender have something that will let you use a mouse and keyboard on consoles. also technically the ps3 and the xbox 360 could be described as being Gaming PC's.

You can choose your own MB, CPU, GPU, SPU, power supply, case, network adapter, and input device!?
Why didn't I know that!?

I was referring to the specs and ability's/functions not customisation but now you mention it there are a few company's that sell a number of different cases for both the 360 and ps3, you can if you want adapt any pc power supply to use on a 360. wireless network adaptors can be modified and improved and there are some adaptors that are compatible with a 360 out there. you can change the motherboard but it will only work if it comes with the original DVD-ROM drive key so that you can inject it into the firmware your using. input devices? there are a ton of input devices to choose from including official and unofficial products. you can also use any pc keyboard or mouse if you have one of xtenders xfps connectors.

Well, apart from the fact that Microsoft bans modded consoles, your view of input devices is narrow.
Let's say that I wanted to use a Logitech Driving Force Pro on the 360. Even if I got it working in-game, what about the fancy force feedback effects?
Or let's say that I wanted to use a Novint Falcon on the 360 or PS3. Same problem.
Or hey, how about connecting a Wiimote to the 360? I can do that on PC...

And you say that you were really referring to the specs... PCs have been running better tech for years. Have you seen the PC version of GTA IV? Or how about Arkham Asylum? (Maxed out in both cases, obviously.)

I'm not saying that all of this makes the PC better, but the 360 and PS3 are consoles, not PCs.

im aware of the difference, im just saying that new consoles are catching up with gaming pc's, consoles have spread out into online play, email, streaming, web browsing, instant messaging, web cameras, video and music downloading/playing/streaming etc and are becoming more like pc's. i know modern gaming pcs fare better than consoles in many aspects especially when it comes to the all around quality of the games, i wasn't trying to point out one as being the better over the other both consoles and gaming pc's have their ups and downs but when you take the 360 and compare it to gaming pc's that were around when it first came out i think its fair to say that the next gen of consoles are going to pose a big threat to pc gaming in many aspects (not all but many).

also most mods are undetectable by Microsoft, its normally bad crc's from ripped games that get people banned as the console makes a log of these. you can use a logitech wheel i forgot what its called though, i know it doesn't support force feedback. Novint Falcon.. no, but im still hoping someone will come up with a better solution to the great hd light gun problem. wiimote, not that ive heard of. i know you can get ps3 controls to work. you can also either install a tilt board or buy a controller with a tilt board pre-installed so you can play 360 and ps3 games with a tilt function, its pretty good with flight simulators, although their arnt that many of those on consoles.

That Logitech wheel isn't the Driving Force Pro, which works on PS2, PS3, and PC. Technically, if a game supported it, then it would work, but the drivers would have to be entirely within the game.

I deliberately mentioned the Wiimote because it's Bluetooth, which the 360 doesn't have. Conceivably, you could connect a Wiimote to a hacked PS3, though.

Not to mention, on the PC, you don't have to pay money to get it to access an Internet connection :x

Though I'm sure Microsoft would sure as heck try if they could get away with it.

You need a PC for Championship Manager. The console versions suck immensely.

On the whole, I find all the necessary installation and configuration for modern PC games rather tiresome and it's especially frustrating when you find you haven't got the right graphics card or that your controller won't work properly with the game. Having said this, the graphics/sound quality is generally a lot better on PC.

Final Verdict -- If you know that you can get the game to work with only a minimal amount of hassle, go for the PC. My technical knowledge of computers is limited, so I tend to settle for emulators of old systems and wait for consoles to come down in price so I can buy them dirt cheap.
