I've been a monster hunter player for 2 1/2 years. It comes out today. Maybe we can gather other people who are getting it and make a group together. It doesn't use friendcodes so it shouldn't be too hard. I'm going to get it today I think.

And for those who haven't heard of Monster Hunter, watch this.

I've read about Monster Hunter.
The only problem is that I dislike playing with people I don't know. :?

You don't have to talk to them, and you can't if you don't even have a wii speak peripheral. The game is cooperative and the people who play it are usually anime fans and such. It's not like halo and COD were everyone is yelling and people swear constantly. I play the games on psp with my aspie neighbour all the time. I'll try to see if he wants to come and help make an aspie group in monster hunter when he gets Tri and if anyone is interested in making an aspie group.

Would it be at all worth playing if I don't cooperate with other players? I understand that the strong monsters will be out of the question, of course.

It's all but impossible to play by yourself by the time you get a quarter into the game. But MH games take about 500 hours total to complete if you're quick.

Besides that, I just got the game. If anyone has it as well and wishes to add me, my name in the game is Zharek.

thanks for posting vids, i shouldve thought about that :p
and i wouldnt mind playing with some people from here, but ive had to push back getting it due to money problems lol

is it as good as/ better than the others? i know theyve changed the difficulty curve but it isnt too slow now is it?

i played it on the psp for about a year without multiplayer (oly just sorted that out recently) and while it is alot better if you're playing in a group i think the games just so big that your dont really NEED multiplayer, it does make it better though yea

I'll look into this game I do love seeing what kind of creatures people can come up with.

I must agree Xbox live chat is indeed a cesspool.

In Japan, Monster Hunter in general has been like the second coming of Pokemon. They have a MH mmo for pc and xbox over there, two games for ps2, three for wii(A remake of the original, a spinoff, and tri itself), three for psp(A fourth one is coming soon), and the new Metal Gear for psp will feature wyverns from monster hunter. Also, all three mh games on psp are the top three best selling games on psp in Japan of all time.

Now back to Tri itself. They have made it easier and already, there are like 5 to 10 thousand people online already. The online is free too and supports wii speak and usb keyboards. They have taken out every old boss monster except for the rathian, rathalos, and diablos. The levels are larger and cooler from what I've seen. Where originally there were the volcano, forest and hills, swamp, rainforest, desert, jungle, and snowy mountains, they now have in place for the old areas, sorts of combinations of the old areas. The island is basically like the forest and hills but with an ocean, the desert has trees and foliage and is situated on a bunch of interconnected mesas, the new glacier area is like the snowy mountains but with glaciers obviosly, the flooded forest is the swamp, rainforest, and jungle rolled up into one, and the volcano has forests around it. You can swim in the game, especially in the flooded forest which is mostly underwater. Also, for the first time, the creatures interract. For instance, some dragons will land on herbivores and begin consuming them in front of you and some of the animals breed at certain times, drawing forth exceptionally large alpha males which give you better materials if you kill and carve them. So yes, I think this one is much better than the previous mh games. It has gotten me to play my wii regularly again, which few wii games have ever accomplished. I'll see if I can put up more videos to showcase the game in subsequent posts.

Also, for any who are trying to get the game, I suggest getting a wii classic pro. Like super smash borthers brawl, the wii remote is dificult to play with. I have a pro, but I'm about equally proficient with both at this point because I played the MH3 demo for a month with my wii remote. They have a bundle with the game and the pro controller for 60 USD(Don't know how much in quid, euros, canadian $, or Australian $ that is) and it will save you about ten bucks on buying a pro controller seperate. They also have a bundle with the game, a controller, and a wii speak, but I don't know ho mucht that costs. Considering bundles are money saving and buying a wii speak and pro controller costs 50 usd together, it's probably like 70 or 80 usd.

Edit: Yes, xbox live is indeed a cess pool. Most people playing Tri right now don't have wii speak, but rather a keyboard or they use the in game chat function which is clunky. You have to become friends with someone to talk with wii speak, and even then, most people who I've talked too aren't mean. We don't direct expletives at each other and only type them in if we die and players have to work together so they're usually only talking because cooperation requires it.

Also, for anyone interested in the creatures, the mh wiki has a bestiary. http://monsterhunter.wikia.com/wiki/Monster_Types

Edit 2: Here's some more vids, some depicting mh tri, some depicting other games in the series. You can tell when it's tri because the graphics will be substantially better.

No, unlike the Phantasy Star games, there is no mage class, but in the psp games, there is a weapon called a hunting horn that plays musical notes that heal hunters or give them stat boosts. Also, some weapons aren't over-sized like the dual swords and sword and shield.

Bows are difficult to use for newbies when compared to bowguns. They're quicker but require you to adjust trajectory and hold the string to do more damage. Bowguns are heavily customizable, have a larger choice of bullet types, shoot straight, etc. They rid the game of a lot of weapons that might prove too difficult for newbies to use like the hunting horn, gun lance, etc. MH3 marks MH's entry into the mainstream audience and is thus markedly easier and stripped down for that reason.

And regarding oversized weapons, look again at sword and shield. It's normal sized IMO. And long swords to, although no one makes swords that long, but still, it looks weildable in the real world unlike great swords and hammers
