Hi, I loved oblivion, and I loved dead rising... and I love GTA... so I had a great idea for a game...
There is an outbreak of the worryingly common zombie virus... that all gamers will know, and love!
in a city somewhere, and it is quarantined by the govermant with soldiers, so there are a load of zombies and some survivors in a city, and you play as one of the survivors (except in multiplayer;) and you can get missions of many other survivors, and it would play like an FPS, but with a load of RPG stuff, in the same way as oblivion, just with more zombies and gore... (it's not a zombie game without gore, or shotguns) and like in oblivion, all buildings could be accessible (unfisable... but awesome) via lock picks, or kicking weak doors down etc.... and most importantly loads of loot, a laod of guns , armour, and other pointless crap for me to horde... and to top of the amazing idea there culd be a few differant faction, eg. General survivors (who would be in clans etc) some weir religious group who think it's the coming of their god or something) some scientists who want to find a cure, and in an interesting twist... the soldiers keeping you in! and you could play them of against each other! As for multiplayer, survivors vs zombie horde, or a death match amongst different clans, or capture the flag and of course juggernaut mode, where one person is a big zombie, and the others are normal zombies...

And the final cool idea.... CARS!! !! (which could be hot wired)

could very well make it mmorpg and mayby put some faction specific stuf in like lazers for scientist and just facking kickass big guns for army. there should be tanks and milatary vehicels aswel. ow and zombie animals.... it would be quite a good game maybe bit hard to all put together. ow and the religious factions should have crossbows and stuff.

Much of this is being developed in a game codenamed ZRPG (Z short for Zombie), which uses engine of "Age of Decadence", also under development.

Sounds a lot like Fallout 3 and STALKER to me.

Game development and theory is my interest!! !! !

Anyway the biggest issue is not having a good idea, rather implementing it.

Even if you used an existing engine, like the Oblivion game engine, it could still take years to get a finished product, with a team of people. Not only does this take time but also money. Of course if you wrote a complete design document detailing the gameplay mechanics and rules, environment and the setting, game goals and a basic story board then that is a start! Those are usually a couple hundred pages so better start soon :D

I guess that sounds mean but I have game ideas too and I know some are good, yet to get to the point of being able to implement them, that is daunting and so far away :(

I looked up that ZRPG, the designer/writer for Vampire: Bloodlines is working on it. That was an awesome RPG, similar to Planescape: Torment I guess, gameplay not great but massively compelling story. I am already optimistic!

quotes from a review here

Quote:
-Set during the breakdown of society as emergence of zombies causes widespread panic and disorder.

-Slow, shambling zombies. Spreads like a virus/bite transmission. No, you are not a zombie, that would be stupid.

-Serious examination of a national crisis or natural disaster. Humans and a lack of order are a bigger threat than the undead. Think Hurricane Katrina, Children of Men, Dawn of the Dead NOT Resident Evil, Return of the Living Dead, zombie shooter-type games.

-Game is about survival. Scavenging resources, exploring the area, dealing with other survivors, and managing a “shelter” of sorts are the main focus of the game. More on this later.

-Game is open-ended. There are characters and events that could happen, but the story depends on where you go, what you do, and who you meet. Of course, there’s a lot more to this and we’ll go into more details as time goes on.

Even more interested, political themes, actual survival and scavenging! I must research this more!

*Leaves to trawl the internet for information*

I do like the sound of ZRPG, didn't know that the designer for Bloodlines was working on it, which I agree was a great game. However I just hope they don't fall into the Peter Molyneux trap of promising this kind of gameplay and not delivering.

As from my PM, but expanded:

As I said, this sounds like you want a faster paced Fallout 3 with more zombies. That is not really much of an idea. Saying

" it would play like an FPS, but with a load of RPG stuff, in the same way as oblivion, just with more zombies and gore... "

Says pretty much nothing except "I want an fps, that's an rpg. Think Oblivion but it will have zombies, so it will be totally different". Not really a radical new concept, and in all honesty Fallout 3 (which you claim to suck) is pretty much exactly that.

As noted in my PM, I had a base game design idea I did with a friend awhile back. The rough idea with many things left unclear (like only 5% fleshed out) was something like 3 pages of concept and a few pages of back story and that could hardly be considered more then a base idea.

Also as I said in the PM, the old rough draft for a game I am/was designing was something like 8 pages and had concept art ideas and more and was still hardly anything.

The moment you say "RPG" you either mean rpg elements such as levels/exp or you mean full RPG. Todays RPG's need a good story to sell at all really, otherwise you would just play an FPS

So if you are serious, flesh it out much more, learn to program/do art, make a base, get a team, go from there.

Best of luck.
