Most of the mods available have an installer so you just have to point it at the directory where the game is installed.
I would suggest you try out the Battlefield HD and Desert Combat Extended mods. Eve of Destruction is also supposed to be good, but I never tried that mod as I already own Battlefield: Vietnam.
