I just got through playing Mother 3, and it was awesome... I haven't really played through Earthbound or Mother 1, but any fans of the series out here?

Totally, but the classic Mother games. They say some of the weirdest sh*t in those games.

Stop posting and go play Earthbound right this instant.

Mother 1 (Earthbound Zero) is not quite as good as the other two, but not bad, and cool to see where it all started (plus, there's a few references to it in Mother 3).

I have finally beaten Earthbound just recently. I really like modern day setting, science fiction RPG's. After completion of Earthbound, I immediately figured out how to get Mother 3 in english. So far, I am at chapter 5. It's got a lot more of a plot in it than Earthbound.

I once had the original translated Mother a few years ago, but the computer I was playing it on got busted and I lost it all.

Earthbound had a lot of rare enemy drop items in it, like the Sword of Kings for Poo. I think I have most of them. Did anyone else find all of them?

Thanks, I had to compress it a bit to get WP to accept it.

There was one weapon I could not find at all...I don't remember exactly what it was, don't feel like dragging out my strategy guide right now, but I think it said it was a laser gun for Jeff that he made out of fixing a broken antenna. I shrugged my shoulders and told myself the guide goofed.

Yes Tollorin, it took me about 200 defeated Starman Supers until a Sword of KIngs appeared. A moment in my video gaming I was very proud of.

SabbraCadabra, it is the Gaia Beam for Jeff. He must have a high IQ rating to fix a broken antenna for it. You get the broken antenna from the smiling orb monster in Dalaam's cave, I forget the monster's name.

I think your characters luck rating has something to do with finding rare items easier.

I'm still holding out for Earthbound on the Wii Virtual Console, though we know the chances of that are teensy. I don't feel like tracking down a SNES cart, unless I get lucky and one shows up at the thrift store.

Still, emulating an out of print game isn't really stealing money from anyone. In fact, I don't have a problem with emulating out of print games, since I hope the rampant fanbase playing for free will convince the company to re-release the games for sale.

...er, okay. I'm putting EB on my 2010 games to play list, since I've already decided not to buy any more until Christmas.

It won't. Only when one genre/type of game sells well, will they put their fears aside and take a chance on a similar product.

Straight from the horse's mouth, Mother 3 (Earthbound 2) did not come out in English because they tested the "quirky RPG" waters with Magical Starsign, a sequel to a game we never got, and it didn't sell as well as they'd hoped.

I really don't know what's stopping them from releasing Earthbound on VC though...I mean it's all digital, there's not many, if any, risks to be had...it's even been rated by the ESRB already.

Maybe they're saving it for when there's a huge lull in sales or something stupid like that?
