There's a nasty little bug going on with older fatty PS3s at the moment.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/02/ ... us-update/

It's not too clear at the moment whether it has to do with the PSN network or a incorrect internal date in the PS3, or combination of the two. Some day the older consoles are thinking it's a leap year(2/29/2010) and this conflicting with updates and downloaded content.
Needless to say, affected consoles are seriously buggered up at the moment to be near unplayable . It might be best not to use your older PS3 for a couple days until Sony gets a patch fix out.

I haven't used mine in a while, so I don't know if it'll affect me, but just to be safe, I'm keeping it off until I hear of a fix.

Yeah, I've read about it, another good reason to switch from the fat 40 GB to the slim 250 GB. And on the paranoid side, is this bug so casual ?

Its a interesting bug and if I didn't know better I would be thinking foul play, but as I have a friend who works there, I asked and I was assured that its just a glitch.

I noticed this yesterday evening when I tried to log in to my PSN account. I then checked out a Playstation forum on Facebook, and was relieved to find that the problem was with the network and not just my console.

MIne is staying off for awhile too. Course I'm not going to switch from a fatty to a slim. I would like to keep my Install Other OS option available.

They've pretty much identified it as being an internal clock issue with older PS3s.
Sony advises not to use your older console at the moment.

My ps3 is working fine, I tried it an hour ago without having heard of this issue. (it's an older one, not a slim)

Sounds like the PS3 came late to the Y2K party.

Yep, problem resolved itself when the date changed over.

It was like the Y2K glitch... cept it was more like the 2010 leap year glitch...

Things are fine now.

There was a funny bit I read about this issue yesterday as well.
Developer consoles were hit by the bug as well, so that means the PS3 game developers weren't able to work on anything yesterday.
