For me it has to be the X-tended Mod ( XTM ) for X3: Reunion a free-form space combat and trading simulator.

After 3 years I still play it. Here's a trailer:

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x4cjrq ... videogames

the youtube version had better video but no sound!

This mod was so good the game developers hired the modders and published a whole new game based on the mod! The official game was good, but I think the mod was better.

Rome: Total War - Europa Barbarorum
Medieval II: Total War - The Long Road

Excellent mods, maybe the two best mods of the Total War series, I suggest if you have Rome or Medieval to try them.

There are too many great mods for Quake for me to pick just one.

Haven't tried too many mods for other games, though. I did finally find a decent mod for STALKER that fixes bugs without adding stupid things like new music, different clothes, and random blowouts, WTF?

Fall from Heaven 2 - Civilization 4
Natural Selection - Half Life
Renegade X - Unreal Tournament 3

Well that's all I can think for now.

There's a multiplayer mod for half-life called The Specialists that's really cool. It incorporates John Woo style gunplay, and a nice juicy arsenal to choose from and you can modify them with different attachments as well (Silencers, scopes, etc.). I believe the community for it died down, but if you can find a decent game or just want to have fun with bots, I'd recommend it.

Old game, but the original Team Fortress on Quake. And also the mod-of-a-mod MegaTeamFortress.

YES. I tried to go back to playing regular Civ IV after playing that mod. Didn't work. FFH is just too awesome.

Also, this gets my vote for the funniest:

In the Tycoon games I like to change the prices of things, the income of things, and peoples wages. In Hot Wheels Stunt Track Driver 2 I adjusted the time so no matter how slow I drove I would beat the clock.

So you cheat? You know they never prosper.

I would probably say Counter-Strike

Cheats?! Some people do have fun with using cheats or trainers. It doesn't affect anyone but themselves. Now in regards to hacks, those people can get themselves banned on official servers.

Back on topic:

Crysis - Mechwarrior: Living Legends.

If you have played a game through a few times cheating can spice it up a bit, give the game that little more replay value. Not worth doing until you have beat a game though or you ruin the experience. Definitely shouldn't cheat against others too, thats just lame.

The Halo 3 mods are pretty interesting.

I'll only use the codes when I have completed the game 100% and that includes all skill settings, or until I complete the hardest skill. Then I will have fun with some extra tweaks
