Not only are there rumors on a movie adaption of the game(most likely much better and darker than tim burton's flick) but soon there will be a sequel coming out called Alice: Madness Returns, set 11 years after the original, this looks like it could be unique and twisted as the first.

here's the teaser trailer
WARNING- probably most definitely not for the squeamish.

Darker? Yes, very much so. Better than Tim Burton's movie? No way! Tim Burton is the King Midas of film making - everything he touches turns to gold.

My feelings about Tim Burton's work aside, I have to say that I'd love to play this new Alice-themed videogame. It's too bad the original American McGee's Alice is so rare and expensive - I'll try my best to get my hands on it though.

Wow thanks for posting the vid this is really exciting!! !! Although I didn't really feel the first Alice needed a sequel because they did such a great job with the story. If anything I would love to see the game re-done with even more up to date graphics and some wicked new art work and fancy cut scenes. As far as a live action goes I think every nerdy girl wants to play Alice so it might be more cool if they did a CGI movie instead using Final Fantasy graphics. I'm a pretty huge Alice fan, I'm one of those chicks that would die to play Alice. I was actually pretty angry that Tim Burton's Alice came out and it wasn't American McGee's. Tim Burtons stuff has kinda lost it's depressing and dark edge recently and I disliked his new Alice in wonderland. BUT man if new Alice stuff by McGee is coming out then I'm totally pumped and excited :D

I have fond memories of the original American McGee's Alice. I remember it being unusual in its art direction and being surprised at the ways they used the Quake engine.

American Mcgee's Alice came out long before Tim Burton even thought about making Alice in Wonderland. The original game is dark. This is a what-if game. What if Alice was psychologically damaged. If Wonderland was all in her head this is what the world would look like created by her dark and twisted mind.

That's amazing! I love the original game, I played it for the first time a few years ago.

I never said, or even implied, that American McGee didn't think of it first. I was merely responding to the OP's comment that American McGee's version is darker and better than Tim Burton's. While yes, it is darker and seems extremely interesting, I absolutely adore Tim Burton's version to the point of obsession. I love the way Burton makes and remakes stories using his signature style; hence the King Midas comparison.

That brings to mind a "Warehouse 13" episode involving C.S. Lewis' Mirror. Wish they had that episode on Hulu still. Anyway, Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass is a psychological opium trip, so making it dark and disturbed is quite fitting . . . and really quite diiisturbing   . The only downside of the first Alice is that the jumping puzzle were difficult due to the camera angles. Heh, hope they add some crazy stuff . . . an Escher room would be kickass if the animators can pull it off.
