Bleach: The Blade of Fate Nintendo DS

I just got Bleach: The Blade of Fate for Nintendo DS, and I'm a bit confused as to how the save system works. After I finished about half of Ichigo Kurosaki's quest, and turned it off, it game basically reset itself without anyone I unlocked. Will it only save after I fully complete a character's episode?

I believe so, I personally own 2 copies of the game and mainly beat it in the japanese version. I'm pretty sure you have to beat the story mode before you turn it off. I always just beat a person then closed the ds, standby mode FTW.
