I get the impression that it's better than Alien Breed, which is good, because Alien Breed was unplayable crap.

It's alright. It's like L4D, it's only fun if you got team mates that are good.

Now I have the right to comment on this thread, finally tried it out. I was playing it all of last night. I have really never played a game from this perspective (with the exception of some "retro" games some years ago), but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm going to try it in first person today.
