i need to update my psp, how do i do that?

There are several ways.

But it is different depending on your system software and what devices you have in your house.
--do you have a PS3
--do you have either the PS3 or the PSP connected to the internet (how is it connected--wired or wireless?)

You cannot even begin to choose your method of update if you cannot answer these questions. If you can answer these questions then go to this site and it does a nice walkthrough to update and it covers the particulars like doing it across the internet, doing it connected with a cable to your PS3, or doing it through other methods if you don't have a way to connect your psp to the internet. If that is the situation you will need access to a PC that is connected to the internet. Read the information on this site and it will help you determine the best way for you to proceed.

Download the lastest firmware from the link alone posted, then plug the PSP into your computer and put the update file (I think it's called "EBOOT.PBP") in the /PSP/GAME/UPDATE/ directory of your PSP's memory stick (create it if it doesn't already exist), unplug the PSP, then run the updater through the Game > Memory Stick menu option. You'll need to have at least 70% battery.

Oh I remember my days of PSP custom firmwares, that was fun...

By reading the instructions on Sony's website. To be honest I don't get these threads. A quick search on Google would provide the results way faster than having to wait for someone to reply with the answer.
