who still plays this? :)

im not very good, i keep telling myself its because im using a basic trackerball instead of a proper mouse. i noticed a lot of serious players seem to prefer the old version, i just play source because its prettier and supposedly easier to hit people?

I play both Counter Strike (Source & Goldsrc).
In some ways I have a preference for the original game engine, due to my partiality for Half Life 1.
Even so, I probably more frequently play Counter Strike: Source, though generally I don't play any counter strikes particularly frequently (comparative to my frequency in playing, for example, Half Life 1 or Garry's Mod).
My choice in playing games isn't usually relative to the graphics, though.

I used to play a lot of Counter-Strike, both the original and Source. However, at university the proxy wouldn't allow TCP/IP connections, and even with a proxy tunneller Steam didn't work very well, so I kind of stopped playing it.

I played Counter-Strike from Beta 6.1, which means I've played it since the year 2000. Wow.

I play both, not much I can add to the thread. I think the two games (source and goldsrc) differ in more than just graphics.

ive been playing about with the config files.

its complicated stuff if you try and understand it (unnecessary), but something along the lines of aligning hitboxes with the server to ensure your shots register properly. I only takes a minute and might make the game more enjoyable if your frequently thinking wtf? i definately should have hit them that time

1. go here C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\steamusernamehere\counter-strike source\cstrike\cfg
2. create a file called autoexec.cfg
3. copy & paste the following

Quote:
cl_cmdrate 101
cl_updaterate 101
rate 25000
cl_cmdbackup 2
cl_interp 0.01
cl_interp_all 0
cl_interpolate 1
cl_lagcompensation 1
cl_lagcomp_errorcheck 1
cl_smooth 1
cl_smoothtime 0.01
cl_predictweapons "1"
cl_pred_optimize "2"
sv_unlag "1"
net_maxfragments "1280"

the autoexec.cfg is the config file that doesnt get over-written by steam - this is the place to put all your favourite settings, key-binds etc.

Don't some servers scan for modified files though?

I used to play a lot, but nowadays I don't bother. When achievements came out I probably logged in an extra 5 hours or so over the past two months.

I pretty much stopped playing when the servers I frequented disallowed custom skins.

I 100% reccomend it, with all the things you can do on it it's worth the price it's only £10 or 10$ wherever you are :P

I use to play CS and CS : S before I moved with my parents from a area that had broadband to a rural were all you can get is Dial-up or 3G and the 3G has a hard time with games, Some days the 3G tower is swamped but 3G is better then Dial-up because I was on Dial-up 2 to 3 months after and recently Virgin Mobile came out with a plan for $40 with unlimited bandwidith usage.

can you play gungame on versions other than source?

its a great concept - evoking all the nursery-esque visual appeal of the simpsons cartoons & LEGO and then combines it with realistic assault weapons!
