XBOX 360: Backwards Compatibility (2010)

Hi. I'm just wondering, can you still play XBOX Originals on the XBOX 360?

I've seen the backwards compatible games list, and I purchased Worms Forts: Under Siege as that is compatible.

I put the disc in, and all that read was:

"Can't Play This Game, Please Download The Game And Try Again."

I've tried all the suggestions I can find including; cleaning the disc, installing updates etc. and they all don't work.

I'm on XBOX Live Gold, and all I want to do is play Offline multiplayer with my brother.

Any suggestions?

EDIT: I've also tried 007: Nightfire, but it's not on the official XBOX list, but it is on the Wikipedia list. WHA?!

Have you tried the disc on an original Xbox to ensure the disc is working properly? (start somewhere simple first )

Hmmm, if you have a hard drive it should work. I'm actually about to buy a 360 and was debating whether to get a discounted arcade or a slim 4gb.

Yes, the game works on an original XBOX console, and yes I do have a hard drive, but still these problems persist.

I've just rang up XBOX Customer Support twice, and on both times they hung up on me! Should I keep the games, or refund them? I've googled this so many times as well, it's so annoying.

My best guess is that you do not have a patch installed that makes your console work.

If you hook your console to the Internet, it will install the latest console patch which includes any fixes needed to play games listed as "backwards compatible" for the 360.

What do you mean by patch? Can you explain to me please?

EDIT: And it's fully up to date, but for some reason, it just doesn't recognise Backwards Compatibility.

I'm not at all a console gamer. But generally speaking a patch in an update to your game/system that fixes existing programming errors and adds new features. I believe that the easiest way to update a 360 is by getting an Ethernet cable and hooking it up to the internet. I don't own one, but that is how my friends that do have taken care of it.

Well, if your Xbox is hooked up to the Internet, your console should already have the latest console updates. Some come with new games (if you aren't running a new enough version of the console software, the game will prompt you to install it before running the game for the first time) come with them. If you have no Internet access, it is possible to download the patch and burn it to a CD which you can use to put it onto the console (self-executes).

You might have to ask Microsoft support. I don't think the patch to run backwards compatible games is a special patch...I thought it was included. MS' website says that the patch automatically installs with console upgrades, so I can't explain why a listed game isn't loading.

Is there someone else with a 360 you could take the game disc to and see if it has problems with their console?

Not all games are supported by backwards compatibility. Essentially whenever you put in an old Xbox game, it needs to download something to allow it to be played on the console. Not all games are supported. Most are, but not 100%.

I still haven't even tried all of my Xbox games yet in the 360. Only one I've tried was Mega Man Anniversary collection.

According to a November 2007 list I found online, however, Worms Forts: Under Siege is supposed to be completely backwards-compatible (unlike, for instance, the XBox version of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, which is subject to severe clipping issues on the 360). So, all I can suggest is maybe running the disk through some sort of cleaning system, like a DiscDoctor or something along those lines, to rid the surface of contaminants and repair any minor scratches that might be interfering with the disk read (since the system uses DVD-ROMs rather than CD-ROMs, the reading capabilites of the laser aren't so robust), and then try it again.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try finding someone else with an XBOX 360 (but that's gonna be hard seeing how I don't really talk to my friends that much), and if that doesn't work, I'll try cleaning the discs. I'm determined to get the XBOX Originals to work. They should do, I want them to.

OK. I've researched alot into this and apparently to play XBOX games on the XBOX 360, it requires "a software emulation profile." Now where can I get one? And how do I install it?
