As a fan of the MK games, i felt they were flogging a dead horse after the rubbish entries of Armaggedon and the cheesy crossover of MK vs DC Universe. But now, MK is going back to basics.

Set for a release in the spring of 2011, Ed Boon has described MK9 as an altered re-telling of the events of the original first 3 games. The gamepley will feature on a single 2D fighting plane while the graphics will remain 3D, harking a return of the traditional days. New features will include a tag team mode, and an Internal Damage system where bones and organs are ruptured via a series of special moves.

There will be 26 playable characters with 2 fatalities each, confirmed so far are...

Along with the return of the Krypt and Stage Fatalites, it looks epic. Can't wait for spring 2011!

If it is a retelling of the first three then I hope they will sill include some of the characters from Deadly Alliance and Deception. They could REALLY work on the konquest mode, however I really liked deceptions konquest mode except for the training missions.

Not sure if Konquest will be returning, and as for DA and Deception characters appearing, Li Mei, Kira and Tanya are shown all chained up in Shao Kahn's arena.

YES! After playing MK VS DCU. I finally get to play a strictly MK game! My dad and I played MK VS DCU a yesterday and I kicked his butt. Yet he said that he that he was doing a better job!

I didn't think much of MK vs DCU, it felt like a fanboy w*k crossover for nerds and geeks. MK 2 is the best out of the original series, and MK 9 is going to erase memories of the former come Spring next year.

Mortal Kombat has not been gracefully aging very well for over 15 years.
