Currently, I'm running through Fallout 2 using a walkthrough to help me. I've used them for other games and have of course found them helpful, but I'm wondering if other RPGers find they spoil the game? I'm not very good at the older RPGs, and I used to find I got stuck a lot. Do you guys think it's better to just jump in and play without a walkthrough to see all the quests and find where I have to go?

I'm thinking I might start again with the oldschool RPGs and try and do them all without walkthroughs, but I don't know how fast it'll all go wrong.

To avoid revealing too much of a game, I like the Universal Hint System (UHS) http://www.uhs-hints.com/ . You can click on a specific problem or situation and get hints. You can just get help for one point, without revealing other things.

There are a lot of games spoken about.

Depends what reason you are playing for. I use them alot, but I play games for the stories.

You mean people play RPGs without walkthroughs? I mean in some cases like Final Fantasy X you can easily play through with no walk through but the majority of them love to make NPCs impossible to find, or make labyrinths or just make it stupid difficult to beat a boss.

I'm currently playing Fallout New Vegas and I don't want to use a guide because I want the game to last as long as it can. If I can't figure something out the logic is that I'll have to play longer or think harder... but it's driving me nuts. For example I'm looking for snow globes subconsciously as I play but I realize I've only found like 4 and I think there are at least 7. Anyway I'm only worried that the ones I'm missing are in ultra hidden stupid places I'd never look :(. On the other hand I very much enjoy finding new things on my own and experience the game on my own terms :).

I currently have not found an RPG that requires a guide to beat the main game scenario (Although I do have very good puzzle solving skills), but I think most of them require a guide if you want to experience 100% of the game. Although I have played some older RPGs that made life a whole lot easier when using a guide. I'm not opposed to using guides unless I really want a game to last. In the case of New Vegas I don't want the game to be over so quickly. I understand that if I had a guide detailing everything I could complete it in less than a week given the game play isn't all that challenging
