Hey guys. For Demography class, I have to write a paper about a population and its statistics. One of my loves is mmorpgs. So, my question is who plays these games, and I want to compare WOW to Eve Online because they are similar yet quite a bit different. So, basically who plays these games and how do they differ?

And, I would love for you all to help me! This survey will be non-identifying. If you don't feel comfortable about answering the questions, don't, but I would appreciate as much data as possible. Thank you!
Also, Happy Thanksgiving!

Survey done... I play mostly EVE... WoW bores me to bits :)

Probably the main difference between WoW and EVE would be the lack of a level system as well as the learning curve. EVE has a really steep learning curve and requires a helluvalot of patience to get started with.

Also the thing I find interesting about EVE is the near-total lack of ingame rules in interacting with other players and the world. In WoW, you can't just go around killing other player for loot... but in EVE, once you're in lowsec space there's NO mercy.

Lowsec, hell - if they can get away with it, they'll gank you in anything up to 1.0!

Tried EVE, didn't care for the fact that it's basically crafted to encourage player griefing. You can't get anything valuable until you enter at least 0.5 security space (security grades run from a high of 1.0 to a low of 0.0), but if you enter 0.5 with anything less than a fully armed and equipped battle cruiser, you might as well just hand over your lunch money to the first attack craft that happens by.

I want to engage the other players on my own terms, not be forced to endure the presence of people I would otherwise find hateful just so I can survive for longer than a few minutes at a time. In WoW, I have the option of doing almost everything solo. Sure, some of it requires that I be at a ridiculously high level relative to the monsters (don't run around in the Blasted Lands solo unless you're at least level 55), but fortunately that's not difficult, especially if you create a Death Knight (where you start at lvl 55). I can join a PUG (Pick-Up Group) to run a difficult instance, or even join a guild (and even then, most guilds don't mind if your major interaction is dropping off excess crafted gear and/or loot in the guild bank), but I don't HAVE to. Unlike EVE, where you'd best find yourself a good corp at the earliest possible moment, or your capsule is going to spend more time awaiting pickup in free space than attached to a ship.

Hey everyone!
I miss WOW this time of year, because of the holiday stuff, but I prefer EVE. Mostly ran solo for either game. Thanks, everyone, for responding!

The Last Question at the Bottom: How many hours did you play?
The one question I forgot to ask. >.< Hopefully more people will view this, though, and take the survey. Luckily, the data I got thus far is pretty interesting and revealing. :) I'm excited.
