Online gaming adds a different dimension to my favorite thing about video games. I would rather play alone, concentrate on all the aspects of the game, get in the 'zone' and relax in the game. Normally, the next day after I've beat the game I have a huge letdown, like a friend has moved away. But now I can go online and play until I am ready to move on to another game. Most of the time I just stay mute, don't chat or email, don't meet up, so it doesn't become some social event that causes anxiety. I don't care it isn't the 'full experience', my enjoyment is not contingent on others. I don't know why people put themselves through the competitive drama or all the drama available when it isn't necessary to enjoy something. There is something for everyone in the gaming world and each genre offers something different. I don't want to play games that aren't fun in single player mode, I don't want my hobby to be empty without buddies, because I'm living my life and doing what I like. I think it is extra cool that there is no 'right' way to do it and it is available whatever way works for everyone.
I quite relate with that.
One thing I like about online gaming because it sort of makes the world seem more...real, as in it's not just me alone.
+ if I sometime do something well, someone else might witness it as well.
The problem is that the other people playing are often intimidating...
