Of course, you can't beat the originality of SSB on the N64, but Brawl had everything that was great about the first two and made it a million times better. In my opinion the best Nintendo fighting game ever, bar none, and one of the very best for the Wii! :D

I liked the first one the best because it was simpler. Simpler is better.

I started playing from Melee, I've played the others but I thought those weren't as much fun.

I have played all three Super Smash Brothers games. I was impressed by Melee, which I got with my GameCube, but when I got to play Brawl, I was blown away. I was a little annoyed at their weakening of a few of my favourite characters (Link and Samus in particular), but I reckon that Brawl is the masterpiece of the Super Smash Brothers series, and I doubt that they can really surpass it.

Favourite characters to use? Snake, Ike, Donkey Kong, Lucas, Link, Toon Link, Samus/Zero Suit Samus, and King Dedede.

Favourite stages? Shadow Moses, the Halberd, Corneria, Castle Siege, Frigate Orpheon, and the two Pokemon Stadiums.

Brawl, easily. The technology wasn't there to make the original SSB a decent game, and Melee, while very good, just is not on a par with Brawl.

That has to be my biggest complaint about Brawl. Link was utterly nerfed. He was my favorite Melee character, and in Brawl he's completely unusable. Toon Link is OK, but it's not the same.

I play mostly as Meta Knight and Mr. Game & Watch.

Not really a SSB fan anymore. I used to play the original and melee as Kirby and get completely destroyed by my cousin. Brawl seems kinda silly in comparison to the previous 2.

Melee

is the only one of the set that's a really good fighting game. The other two are fun, but Melee is the only one that really takes serious skill to compete in.

Brawl is pretty and has a few new modes and some new characters but it just doesn't hold onto that competitive spirit. Additionally they nerfed all my favorite characters... HARD! and amped up some of the new characters to ridiculous levels.

His up-B (sword spin) not longer does anything useful, while it was a great attack in Melee. He cannot recover from off the stage at all (in Melee no one really could, but in Brawl any decent character can). He is much slower than most of the other characters, and unlike Ike he isn't compensated for this by having a lot of power behind his attacks. The boomerang is worse than it was in Melee. His grab still leaves you extremely vulnerable if you miss with it, but his grab attacks aren't at all good. His attack range is terrible, meaning most of the time he doesn't even have a chance to get off an attack before being slapped around. He may well be the worst character in Brawl.

EDIT: Also, his down-a aerial attack is useless. It's way too slow; no one who's paying any attention is ever going to get hit by it. At least Toon Link and Game&Watch can hit with their down-a spikes.

I like Brawl best.

I guess my favourite character right now would be Zelda, she is pretty good with long range, and especially good at close range power if you get the sweet spot with her kicks, if she is lacking in areas or you want to mix up your combat a bit you can turn into Sheik, who is pretty cool with her/his wall sticking ability.

Although Snake is fun for pissing off the other person, Wolf is a good mix between power and speed, people underestemate Peach so she can be usefull psychologically, Links down A attack is his main strength and can make the other person be wary, most underestermate Bowser's speed and Pokemon Trainer if you can adjust your style well enough can confuse your opponent.

One, his sword spin can be charged, and it is still a good crowd clearer. Two, the down-a attack (which I call 'Death From Above') I still find useful. Especially if he bounces, although that's less likely as normal Link than it is with Toon Link.

But compared to what it was in Melee? Way worse. And it's not good as a recovery move, which is a huge problem given how fast Link falls.

Even the CPU opponents will usually dodge it. You will almost never hit a halfway-decent human opponent with it. Toon Link's down-a, though, is a killer. Great for spiking people off the edge.

I'd probably say Brawl if I wasn't so SSB'd out from sinking uncountable amounts of hours into Melee. For the most part Brawl did improve upon everything that Melee did with the exception of removing a few certain characters (any particular reason why Mewtwo was removed). Although I do feel like Nintendo could have made Brawl infinitely better if they added in more online support. The online multiplayer matches are an exercise in laggy frustration, and they really botched it when they decided it was a good idea to not include downloadable characters, stages, music themes, and bug fix/balancing patches.

My brother gave me Melee. I guess that'll hold me over until I get brawl. I usually play as Captain Falcon or Bowser.
