question re. the guild II

Hi! I'm having trouble buying myself stuff in the game. It just will not let me do it . How is it done?

Also, I downloaded The Guild II: Renaisance( from the Jo Wood website), and tried to install it. Once I put in the serial number, nothing happened when I clicked on the icon. I don't know why, as this happened on a computer that was willing to play THe Guild II. Any ideas?
