Just wodering: what are people's favorite Resident Evil games? Resident Evil 2 is my fav, but Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is pretty awesome, too.

Resident Evil 0. I am enjoying the Limited Edition Resident Evil 5 very much, but the camera makes me motion sick. =[ I liked 4 a lot as well.

I only played one Resident Evil completely through, and that is Resident Evil 4. I never understood how resident evil became popular, the controls are terrible, the combat repetitive and frustrating, the story sucks, its attempts at horror are corny, it wasn't until Resident Evil 4 that they managed to make a decent videogame, and they made a decent videogame by making it completely different from the previous resident evils. Resident evil is overrated, and 4 is the only decent videogame in the entire series.

Pretty much.

I haven't played 0 or 5 yet, but I think my favorite might be 4 now, with 3 at a close second.

CV is definitely my least favorite =/

You forgot the Umbrella Chronicles games.

Aw crap, I forgot a few (especially since I own Darkside Chronicles... sorry about that). To everyone who said 4 is the best, 5 is better than 4. After playing 5, I went back and played 4, and noticed that Leon can't sidestep, nor does he have as many options as Chris when it comes to dodging/meleeing enemies (for example, you can't just run up to a Ganado in 4 and press A (or X on the PS2 Version) to punch, but you can punch a Majini in 5. I also found 4 to be the easiest game in the series, even after I beat it on Professional (it's never close to being as hard as 2's Nightmare difficulty on PC, or 5's Veteran difficulty).

The controls in the older Resident Evil games (those before 4) aren't bad at all. All that you need to do is memorize the angles of the camera in the various rooms (which isn't hard considering that the older games take less than two hours during a single playthrough). As for the combat being repetitive, that can be said of all the Resident Evil games - ready/aim the weapon, then fire. Having played and beaten every single Resident Evil listed in the poll, I don't see how the combat of the older Resident Evil games is frustrating. The older games in the series are meant to be survival horror; running past zombies without firing bullets goes a long way towards beating the games. Save ammo for the bosses - I'll make things a lot easier. The quality of the story of the RE series is a matter of personal preference, as is the scare factor.

I had terrible problems with Metal Gear Solid too. I forced myself to learn the horrible controls to play Snake Eater.

Yeah, the moves that Snake can pull off in MGS1 (along with the weird control setup) aren't that good according to today's standards. Guns of the Patriots, however, has some of the best third-person shooter gameplay mechanics to date. Controls in MGS4 are very responsive and fine-tuned.

Sounds good. I don't own a next gen console though, so I'll probably never know. I'm so disappointed with modern video games.

Agreed. So what if Modern Warfare 3 is coming out in November (it's tentative release date)? I'm betting that very little will have changed since Black Ops. Man do I miss the days of the Atari 2600 and SNES.

I like the gameplay of the classic RE series (0-CV). You were usually in a claustrophobic setting with limited ammo (the monsters never dropped any when killed), limited health, and often you would have to wait for the monster to come into view before you could shoot it, building the tension. The new games (4,5) just don't have that tension.

Well said! Going back to the tension of the classic RE's... one could just feel their heart pumping when Tyrant 'B' came busting through the walls unexpectedly in RE2, or never knowing when you'd have to run for your life from Nemesis in RE3, and no matter how many freeze rounds you launched into that guy, he'd always get back up within ten seconds to resume the hunt. Yup, those were the days when the gamer might piss their pants at any moment.

I don't know which I like the most :|. I mostly just like the concept of the game series and the creatures. I could never bring myself to complete the old RE games because the controls were so awful, but they seemed to be the scariest from what I played. 4 and 5 we're really good, but they lacked the same scare factor :|

Oh... and you forgot RE: Dead Aim. Dead Aim was a spin off for the PS2. It had the old RE zombies and monsters in a closed space (On a cruise liner), and had a control system slightly resembling RE4's (but not as good of one), but you could attach a usb mouse to the PS2/PS3 and use it to aim which made it play better and was pretty cool :D. I never played it all the way through though :|. It kind of reminded me of what the RE games could have been like now if they hadn't switched to parasites :?

Lacked the scare factor?!? I couldn't get past the broken-down house right at the beginning of RE4 because it was too scary. 8O
