Who else does it?

My Wii is softmodded. It was surprisingly easy as it was a 4.2 version.

Let me say that once you softmod your Wii you can never go back. Nostalgic gaming is awesome; playing Sonic, Mario Land, etc. is just awesome.

I've softmodded XBox and Wii (Twilight hack). I only have the Homebrew Channel on my Wii though.

I softmodded my friend's DS once too, so he could run DS ROMs from slot1.

Not if you know what you're doing, and there are many guides that cover Wii softmodding, which is very easy to do I might add.

The only risk is if you buy a new game, it might complain and tell you you need to update first, and the update might erase your Homebrew Channel :x

I've had it update a couple times, but so far so good.

Or I guess you could "accidentally" get an unofficial release and screw up your Wii...or if the power goes out while it's hacking your firmware...

There's actually an app (Priiloader I believe) that can block updates for your Wii, both on disc and the internet. But yeah, never do it with flaky power. Thankfully I have yet to experience the excruciating anguish of bricking a system.

Back when I had them, I softmodded my Xbox360 and my PSP, and had lots of free games. 8) The 360 was a HUGE pain in the ass to do, it was extremely difficult and took all day, since I had no idea what I was doing, and it's not easy in the first place. But it was worth it. :D Twelve $60 games for only #35 for the DVD-R-DLs.

I also softmodded my old Xbox, but that was after I got a 360, so I rarely used it. I wouldn't have been able to hack my PSP without my awesome math teacher, because he let me borrow his Grand Theft Auto to hack it, since that was back at update 3.03 when you needed it.
