This is sort of like giving an autistic child a keyboard to write with, it's not really changing or "improving" them, those skills were already there, it's just they weren't so obvious to NT's.

It's not really therapy to me, but it does still help and I know of at least one LFA whose life was greatly improved by the ability to communicate with these types of tech. (Carly Fleischmann)
