Does anyone else take issue with the XBox's d-pad?

I bought Sonic's Ultimate Sega Genesis Collection and it's really hard to get down and duck at times and when you're typing a message it goes diagonal and such. I imagine it'd be difficult to play fighters with it unless you can work those games with a joystick or even the analog. I regret getting the genesis collection on xbox, though. ugh.

Anyway what do you think of the xbox 360's d-pad? And where can I find a good wireless controller where the d-pad isn't so cumbersome?

I can't say anything nice, so I won't say anything at all

I'm sure Capcom has a fighter pad or two for the 360. I've never tried them, but if they're good enough for Street Fighter, they should be perfect for a Genesis collection.

They're obnoxious, but I don't hate them as much as other people seem to. I usually don't use them much, though, as I have my Genesis collection on the PS3 and I use the analog stick in fighters, anyway.

Didn't Xbox recently make an update to their 360 controllers specifically updating the d-pad? Maybe you should get the new model official controller.
If not, look up the Hori company's Xbox controller; it has a different kind of dpad that might fit well with your style. They sell it on amazon.

I tend to not use the d-pad except for a quick reference, and even so it can be a bit dificult to choose the equipment that you assigned to the diaganals without choosing the wrong thing often, I think it rolls. The trick is to not really use it in for movement in most games, or only if you want to use a single direction like jumping in a fighting game.

It still blows :x It's a little bit better than it was, but still nowhere near as "good" as the d-pad on the original XBox's S controllers. Especially not for the price they're asking.

I don't see a problem with it.

Well, I have my copy posted at swap.com hoping someone will swap me a copy of the ps3 version of the genesis collection. Ya never know. Someone might not use the ps3 anymore and still want the game. Problem is that I'll lose the saves, but I'm ok with that.

I play fighting games, and shmups... both of which, I need the d-pad for.

And I play at a high level in the shmups, and a VERY high level in fighters.... so I'm REALLY picky about precision on controllers, which makes it worse.

And I.... just cant freaking stand the 360's dpad. It's awful. Horrible. Terrible.

....and I have no choice but to use it, with that console.

I dont use sticks with fighting games; they merely slow me down. As such, I simply dont play those on that console whatsoever, using them on the PS3 instead. But the shmups.... are ONLY on the 360, and that's where I have to play them... which means putting up with that horrid thing.

Believe me, MOST people think the 360's dpad is a nightmare. It's legendary for it.

I hear that Hori's controller, though, is very good. I will be buying one of those.

It has absolutely no precision at all. You press left, and it's always a surprise whether the controller will actually register that "left", or maybe it'll think you pressed up or down.

Try doing a hadoken in any Street Fighter game (down-to-forward, punch) without jumping in the air and you'll see what I mean. The Dreamcast's d-pad had the same problem, but with the 360 it's so bad that every game is effected, not just SF.
