I played through Knights of the Old Republic and I felt the story line was as good or better than any Star Wars movie I have seen. I had to play thorugh it a second time just to appreciate it. The plot twist was the best of any story I have read or played through.

It really ought to be made into a movie. I would pay to see it.

I love the story in KOTOR and I've played the game many times just to experience the story again....

I agree that it's better than the movies (although I figured out the twist before the reveal) and I'd pay to see a movie based on it as well!

HK-47 is one of my all-time favorite fictional characters and Bastilla is the only video-game chick I've ever had the hots for...

I mean sure, I've lusted after Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy (from Arkham Asylum), but me and Bastilla... we really had something.

At first, I was disappointed. I really wasn't impressed at all.

And then I found out about the Star Forge, and I was hooked.

After I learned that I was Darth Revan, I have to say it's the best RPG ever.

I like this post.

KOTOR is one of the only RPG series that actually really grabbed me, so I stayed on it for hours on end.

I must've logged 100 hours on it easily, and that's just KOTOR 1.

While I agree that KOTOR's story was amazing and that the revelation of your playable character's true identity was very well done, I actually preferred the deeper exploration of the Force in its sequel, The Sith Lords, even if was technically inferior to its predecessor.

I actually found myself agreeing with Kreia's nihilistic views of the Force, of its need to maintain a semblance of balance and what lengths it would resort to in order to do so, inspiring wars between its dual natures, Light and Dark. Then again, I'm somewhat of a nihilist, myself, so maybe it was to be expected.

Yeah it is really good, also really like some of the characters like Mission Vao, HK-47 and Jolee Bindo, HK is probably the funiest character in Star Wars, while I think Jolee is one of the wisest, and he acts like or pretends that he is a crazy old man, telling stories with no moral, but he is just aware of the problems in light and dark, and the jedi's biggest weakness being pride.

I also agree that Kreia is a rather good character, she is so much more unique and on a different level to many characters. I laughed at the General Kota from Force unleashed when he complained that his loss of sight meant he could not be a Jedi, while Kreia is proof of what useing just the force to see can have.

KOTOR 1 was impressive. I liked those characters and that storyline best. It probably should have been a movie first. Kotor 2, I'm glad I waited to buy it and didn't pay full price for it. It had awesome graphics and I loved the upgrades you could do to your items, but the characters were mostly flat, I didn't use most of the new force powers that much, and the storyline was a little weaker, and half the time during the long tedious conversations I was hoping for an option saying "[throw Kreia/GO-TO out the airlock]" to come up.

both games are brilliant after a few modifications (for no 2), there is mods to allow forcanon items that were included but not activated and there is a comunity patch adding extra sidequests, dialog and items.
restored canon content
Tactical rebalance (makes combat a lot more dynamic and challenging with completely redone combat mechanics (damage calc. to hit calc and everything, now you have to be clever and use your force powers accordingly)
with these addons the game gets a bit more story depth, much better gameplay and a slew of bug fixes.

I must admit, the plot twist took me by surprise, and what made it really good, was that it wasn't a cheap twist, all the signs had been there, but you ignored them as examples of "video game logic" such as the whole "You've mastered 5 years of Jedi training in weeks", yeah, no longer as surprising after the big reveal :D

At the time I was expecting a kind of twist, although I didn't know what the twist was. Bioware's previous game (Baldur's Gate) had a similar twist, and Jade Empire (a game that came after) also had a similar twist. I'm actually glad they don't do these twists all the time, but they're fun every so often.

I think the story was high quality and definitely worth playing through. I don't know if it's the best, but I have a hard time defining or deciding on a "best" anything.
