Hello one and all (my first post so i want that out the way.)
Well i can say my passion is video games, i live them, breathe them and bleed them (of course not literally, that would be quite disturbing.)
But anyway i have decided i want to start a VLOG under the guise of discussing and playing games but am unsure where to start, i would like if anyone could give suggestions on:
.Video equipment to use (i'm running on a strict budget so nothing over £/$1000.)
.Any tips for methods of filming.
.If anyone would indeed be interested at all in Aspie centered VLOG.
.Which video editing software i should use, and any help in general as have had no experience with video editing software
.And finally if anyone would like to add into the creative 'pot' as it were (such as adding to the writing or even general ideas,) i would love input from fellow Aspie gamers.
Thank you for your time, and thanks for a response in advance.

Use Fraps to record videos and Sony Vegas to edit them. Also find a good compressor like H.264.

today you can get 720p webcams for almost no money, maybe a 100 dollars.
combine that with fraps and a good mike and you have all you need to capute in game photo and make your face apear in the corner while talking (for an example)

sounds like a good project.

You might even need to upgrade your computer. You'll need a lot of hard drive space, probably a faster hard drive, and other parts to ensure your computer can run your games AND record them at a good frame rate. You can go to computer forums and find a good build.

Well thank you for the advice, i will make sure to post it once the pilot is completed, but i'm unsure how long it will take so don't hold your breath just yet.

You would also need games lol don't for get that. As far as Vlog goes um idk if what you are suggesting is a vlog I would think it more of reviews or gameplay videos. Vlogs are webcam videos of people talking about a subject like Vloging about a game is different from using gameplay in the video. Something that is catching a lot of peoples attention is Gameplay Commentary. Why not sure however even I find it better when I can watch gameplay and someone is talking about what they are doing and other stuff. watching just plain gameplay is boring. Commentary gives the viewer a sence that the person recording is human like them and makes the video much more enjoyable. As far as that goes it also depends on the games you want to do like if it is PC fraps and vegas are good and prolly a terrabyte harddrive cause videos are large files, I recommend getting an external harddrive for your videos 1 terrabyte is about 100 bucks here. Another thing to note is that there are companies on youtube that take gamers videos and ask them if they want to be apart of their company, Machinima is one of those youtube companies, they are extremely popular. TGN is another one I can think of not as popular as Machinima but still cool, on the other hand if you want to just do your own thing many game video posters just use their channel for videos and don't join a company like TGN or Machinima for videos (not sure that TGN is a company it just seems like it) anyway good luck to you and hope this post was informative and not so rambly. gamming is my interest and I could probably spend eternity talking about it. I won't bore you with it though again Good Luck maybe I'll sub you.

I heard the framerate goes down when you use fraps. Why not just use a video camera instead?

Because recording directly from the source > recording indirectly from the source.

Recording a video of a screen, unless you have mad skills and mad tech, looks bad compared to a simple small frame rate drop in fraps.

Doesn't sound that hard... just stick a camera in front of the screen.

Any alternatives to fraps, then?

@Thebigrage
I'm sure you couldn't bore me lol, anything related to video games could go on forever, i wouldn't mind.
And yes i remembered the video games, that's no problem as i'm a collector anyway.
As for the style of the video i was going for something of a mix between tobuscuss (sorry if you don't know who he is) and the angry video game nerd (but with defiantly less emphasis on the anger) and jumping between reviews, game-play runthrough's, rants and observational pieces, but with some other original pieces thrown in, but i cant really discuss that yet.

@ZippyZ sorry to be such a tech noob but care to explain to me what fraps is? ive never heard of it.

As an alternative you could use xSplit (http://www.xsplit.com) Its a really good tool and a lot of pro gamers use it to stream and record their games.

Fraps is just a screen capturing software/program. I think.

It'll record whatever's on the screen.

Xsplit does the same really, and its really easy to configure.

because un;ess you slow down the resfresh rate of your camera to below that of your monitor you will have scan lines on your final video, they can be synced by specialized hardware (expensive) or cut out by removing each individual frame of the video where the scan lines are showing.

in the end you would always end up with less frames per second or the same as that of his gaming rig, or monitor if above 60hz.
furthermore if the fps of his rig is fluctuating calibrating a camera to below that fps is virtually impossible.
