Just wondering if anyone has ever heard of this game.. I guess it's really not to popular, especially not anymore as it was made for the Gamecube and PS2 and not really "relevant" now. But with Suda51 becoming more known with his newer games like No More Heroes 1 & 2, Shadows of the Damned, and the upcoming Lollipop Chainsaw, I figure at least some people would have had more interest in what he's done in the past, as I did.

It seems to be one of those love it or hate it games with no real middle ground, and I'm definitely one of the former who think it is one of the best experiences I've had in gaming. Its storytelling is definitely what I found to be the best about it, though a lot of the gameplay concepts and designs are pretty cool and I'd like to see expanded on in other games. Unfortunately, while I found each of Suda's later games fun enough, they didn't seem to be quite as creative, nor as serious in their stories, and that is a bit disappointing. I love humor, and Travis Touchdown is one of the best video game characters ever, but I feel that due to poor sales for Killer7, he has had to conform more to what is popular rather than what his idea of true artwork is.

Here's a trailer I was able to find for it, for those who may want to see it:

I guess it could be hard to interpret what the game is about or try to see an overall pattern, but I feel that this is the kind of game that you can only truly experience on your own. As I understand it, not understanding the game has been one reason listed as to why some people don't like the game. However, for me, the game seems very symbolic as well as full of metaphors and thus left open to individual interpretation. A lot of other games out today are very straightforward and almost spoonfeed you info, never challenging you to really think about how you feel about what is going on or your own morals or whatever. In a way it kind of reminds me of the TV show Lost, both in plot as well as the way some view it.

I've played both versions and love it! Grasshopper are a breath of fresh air even now.
Here's a list of their games, I highly recommend Michigan: Report From Hell and getting an "undub" of it if you can.

Yeah, I've read a bit about those and watched a few videos of games they've made before Killer7. Thing is, I'm broke and can't afford any. :P Maybe if I had a job and perhaps took the time to learn anything other than english I would consider it. Still seems interesting enough to read about, though.

There's theories that the guy in The Silver Case (soon to be ported to 3DS) is the same guy in Killer 7 or linked somehow.

No More Heroes are much easier games to get hold of and now the first has been put on 360 / PS3.
Shining Soul games I think they just got told to make for SEGA so I wouldn't pay much attention to them unless you are a Shining Force fan.

I loved this on Gamecube, it was beautiful looking at the time and the audio was sublime. Every single incidental sound and the music perfectly complimented the game and story. I still remember the Heaven Smiles' cackles with fondness.

Been a while since I've seen this thread. :P
I'd been hoping that Shadows of the Damned would be a sort of spiritual successor to Killer7, and while it does seem more similar than others, it wasn't quite it, really. Not that that's entirely a bad thing. An outright sequel wouldn't work, I don't think, but I wish Suda would make another more serious games rather than sort of "selling out" as he has been. I enjoy the humor and all, even have Lollipop Chainsaw preordered, but they don't have near as much of an impact or lasting appeal as something that really leaves you thinking.

I haven't beaten Killer 7 just yet. I do have it. Great game. A bit difficult though.

Yeah some parts were kind of frustrating. Still can't beat the new mode you unlock once you beat it, somehow even with the use of action replay codes.

I can only play the game in small dosages and sometimes they have some really disturbing imagery. I swear one of the ghost man was masturbating when talking to me. Whatever he was doing didn't look right at all and I'm like "wtf"

Nothing Suda 51's been involved in since has had the depth or flair that Killer 7 had. I know Shinji Mikami played a large part in producing Killer 7, but Shadows of The Damned did not have the same level of polish and didn't have live up to expectations, considering the pedigree of the people involved. Also, that sidescrolling section was horrible and completely unneccessary, which served only to detract from any of the limited fun to be had in the game.

While I agree, I wouldn't say SotD is outright awful. The sidescrolling sections are a gigantic pain, and the game itself can be pretty buggy and I even died a few times because of glitches, but I do think it was still fun and a bit of a challenge. But I do enjoy both Killer7 and the No More Heroes games quite a bit more. I can't say I know too much about Shinji Mikami, other than that he's been involved.

Pandora_Box, how far have you gotten? I think I remember that ghost but I'm not sure...maybe it's about time I've replayed the game. I think I did read something about how there was intended sexual innuendo in some of the things Travis(one of the ghosts) does. :P

Not at all, it's a decent game. It's just that with those names, I'd have expected much more. They've set a high bar, previously.
Shinji Mikami Wiki. He should be due a place in the Japanese hall of fame with Miyamoto and Kojima.

I kind of don't remember. All I remember was that I was in some city that was desert, but the city fell over like it was a prop or it was a building. And some guy with an afro explodes into rainbows. I can't exactly remember whta happened my mind was so properly f****d.

edit-

The last level I remember is the Cloud Man level.

ZX SpectrumDisorder - Ah, thanks. Guess I'll have something to read for now. I always spend hours and hours on all different kinds of wiki pages without realizing it. :P Yeah, Miyamoto and Kojima are cool. I wonder if Travis Touchdown would ever get a spot in the Super Smash Bros. games since Snake was able to, but I guess that's going a bit off topic.

Pandora Box - Oh, I love that level, especially for the music. Only thing I dislike are those giant smiles with the one eye that you have to shoot - usually I just turn invisible with Kevin and run past them as quick as I can, if that's any help to you. There's a max amount of thick blood you can make into serum per level, so I'd suggest grinding until you reach that point and leveling up your characters before fighting the next boss. I'd tend to level up Dan, Kaede, and Coyote first, and worry about the rest later on in the game, but that's just me.

Did you face the boss, though? The rainbow guy with the afro? (Andrei Ulmeyda :P) I had some trouble with him. I ended up using Con, and wore the stamina ring as it gives you double the health, though it is still easy to die pretty quickly if cornered by him. The trick to it is that you want him to come around a corner at you, and then try to get around the other side of him quickly so that you can shoot at his afro. I'm not kidding.

Hope you stick with it and have fun.

I believe I did fight the rainbow afro man because I was delight by the game with one of the weirdest images of my mind to date. But it's been a while since I played the level and I cannot remember it very well.
