I am wondering if anyone actually takes the time to read any of the books in Skyrim and/or Oblivion, and if so, whether they are worth reading or not. The only things I have ever read in those games are the notes, diaries, journals, etc, that you need to read for quests. Other than that, I mostly have ignored the books.

I do it in both Oblivion and Morrowind (Morrowind is the prequel, and my opinion is that it's the best Elder Scrolls game there is).

Is this the official "I've given up on getting a girlfriend" support thread?

If you don't read the books, you miss out on little gems like "The Lusty Argonian Maid."

How about you avoid threads that don't pique your interest instead of trolling them?

Seems like you're trolling. In which case, if you think that this topic is so nerdy that it will prevent anyone posting on it from getting a girlfriend, then you're mind is too small to understand that guys are not the only nerdy people who play video games. Most of the time, nerdy guys seek nerdy girlfriends who are just as nerdy as them. This is no wonder, nor is it rocket science--in fact, it isn't even as difficult to understand as basic concepts of arithmetic which most of us are born with the capacity to learn.

You have just given more support to the statistic that the majority of highly educated (Master's degree or greater) people are left-wing liberals. You also give support to the common stereotype of bigoted conservative gun lovers who most often are Christian zealots with an education level no higher than 8th grade. High school, at best.

You seem to be overly focused on the right to bear arms. What's the matter? Mind not big enough to think about the smart political/economic stuff? Given the current state of things, gun rights should be the least of anyone's concerns. Unless, of course, you lack the necessary mental capacity to think at higher levels than guns. In which case, go ahead, we'll leave the gun stuff to the simple-minded.

Oh GAWD. I purposely avoided that book. The thought of its contents just makes me squeamish. lol I do, however, enjoy those little easter eggs the developers put in. Some of them are quite amusing. :D

 come on guys, that was pretty funny.

I read some of the books, but most of them I just open (to see if it grants any skill points) and close. I do tend to keep a private library in my house though :)

Hey, now. No need to fight a troll with a troll. Why drag yourself down to that level?

I actually found the flagrant double entendres to be quite witty. It also wasn't nearly as ribald as, say, "The Real Barenziah."

Eh... I fail to see the humor in insinuating that people who discuss books inside a RPG are a bunch of virgins.

You're right, I should not have fed the troll. And yes, I agree that his trolling was uncalled for, as was my response. But the original troll doesn't seem to care much. No point in getting into a huge troll argument, so I will not respond to any of his responses.

I have read a few, but not a lot, most of the ones I read involve things about Daedric princes, there are some interesting ones. My favourites tells the a few stories like how Sheogorath invented music, won a bet in creating a monster to fight against Hircine's beast, turned a man insane without lifting a finger, or an attempt by a great theif in stealing Nocturnal's robe.

I did read a bit of the Lusty Argonian maide once, and a book on the dangers of Horkers.

I like the ones with interesting stories, such as "The Gold Ribbon of Merit", "The Armorer's Challenge" or "Hallgerd's Tale", among others.

I can't say I'm actually into Skyrim for its story. Sorry, but if I want a good story, I certainly won't play a wrpg. With that said, Skyrim does have some decent lore. I just can't be bothered to read most of it. If I pick up a first volume and it sounds interesting, I might try it. I'll only read it all if I'm still interested as I'm reading it. I only keep up with a few stories, if I can find them in sequential order. For the most part, I tend to just open the books to find out if I'll get a skill increase from one of them.

It reads more like Song of Solomon in the Bible. It's all "innocent" speech meant to have sexual undertone. It became squeamish for me when I remembered the Argonians are that lizard race... Gave new meaning to some of the phrases in that book... I do find it kind of creepy that you can find a copy of it under the bed of the Jarl's son in Morthal...

I don't play Bethesda games, but I do read all of the books/scrolls/etc. in the Ultima games, the Looking Glass games, survival horror/Resident Evil, etc.

The Ultima games had books that actually came in the box with the disks that you had to read before starting the game (as well as readable in-game books, later on in the series). Wasteland had "paragraphs" strewn throughout the game that you'd have to read every once in a while, partly for a sort of copy protection, and partly to give certain parts of the game much longer descriptions. For instance, you'd enter a new area, and it would say something like "read paragraph 347", and you'd flip through the book and find it.

I'd like to go through the entire manual sometime and read all of them, I'm sure there's tons that I never saw in-game (and I know there's at least one fake one in there to throw you off from 'cheating', I wonder if there are more).

Infocom games kind of had pamphlets and stuff that came with the games, too. Just really random stuff, usually just for laughs.
