I enjoyed the Final Fantasy games when I was younger, it's a shame that Japanese RPG games aren't as popular now and I don't think they have the same appeal. Digital Devil Saga was also a great game that had a good turn based system, definitely worth checking out if you're still into gaming on turn based role playing games.

Castlevania:SOTN is an action-rpg. The main character gains experience points, levels up, and equips various weapons and armor.

SUIKODEN!!

I rate this higher than FFVII. You can recruit people to your team, have 6 in battle or less. 2 battle systems. Touching story.
Based off of an ancient story from Asia.

Final fantasy 9 was definitely the best from that gen though but you might want to try 7 first which I think is slightly overrated. It's a Japanese RPG flooded with mini games but it does have a good storyline.

Gamespot gave "Chrono Cross" a very rare perfect 10 out of 10 score that it probably didn't deserve since nobody mentioned that game yet. lol

I *LOVE* the DS version of Chrono Trigger.
If only I hadn't accidentally thrown it out.

I wanted to finish it, all 13 endings.

It's an amazing game and I would get it if I had already finished it.

It and Half-Life 2 are my favorite games of all time.

Chrono Cross is the sequel somewhat. I think you can get Radical Dreamers from the Wii Shop in some regions (which is the true sequel to CT).

Suikoden 2 is better but I'm glad I'm not the only fan here! Recruited all 108 Stars of Destiny in both games :D

As for the best PSX RPG's, mine would be Grandia and the aforementioned Suikoden 2. I like the Tales games too.

I think Chrono Trigger is available in both the Wii Shop and the Playstation Store.

Yes, but the DS version is *SO* MUCH BETTER.

Going to have to disagree here. I prefer the Wosley translation and I didn't care for the extra content and shoehorned boss that linked the story to Chrono Cross. I'd rather pretend CC didn't happen than be reminded of it. The sound is probably better on the snes too. Its not a terrible port, I'm just a purist.
